"You've Got To Be Carefully Taught" (originally by William Tabbert) You've got to be taught to hate and fear You've got to be taught from year to year It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear You've got to be carefully taught You've got to be taught to be afraid Of people whose eyes are oddly made And people whose skin is a diff'rent shade You've got to be carefully taught You've got to be taught before it's too late Before you are six or seven or eight To hate all the people your relatives hate You've got to be carefully taught You've got to be carefully taught
Detectorists fans will love this. Johnny Flynn not only sings the theme song for the new adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma, but he also plays Mr Knightley. Here’s Queen Bee, which is just great: Even bigger news, he has also been signed to play David Bowie in the forthcoming biopic Stardust!
Bechet was amazing and one of the most incredible musicians to emerge from New Orleans. I am always staggered to think just how far back in history he was. As early as 1919 he was touring Europe in the orchestra of Will Marion Cook (a pupil of the composer Dvorak) and an important figure in proto-jazz. He was a fully-formed soloist prior to the rise of Louis Armstrong. I think he spent part of the early 1920s in a French jail and toured Europe extensively with the consequence that he is largely absent from many recordings in the 1920s in the US when many of his generation were producing their best work. This is one recording by him which has always impressed me and was recorded for the nascent Blue Note label before they got involved in more modern jazz in the next decade.
Thanks Ian, that was just wonderful. I was sitting in my garden listening to that, and with the temperature and humidity and that fabulous music, I could have been in New Orleans!
The old master of words, Mr Robert Zimmerman just keeps on rolling on creating history... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53197834 This is from the new album...
Wow. Just, wow. I really didn’t want that to end, moved me to tears. Thanks for posting that SA, I shall be purchasing it!
This is an interesting recording of Shakatak´s "Southern Freeze" as it is fusion of several different styles from disco, jazz funk, chill and rave.
