I just love the vibe on it, the guitar sings better than he does His wife says it's their pension plan, without it she doubts they've been able to afford the treatment which has helped him recover following two cerebral haemorrhages. Here's (a boyish) Edwyn with Orange Juice on one of my 80s faves -
In fact, murmurations of starlings are a brilliant example of Chaos Theory, which The Bridge puts into dramatic form better than practically anything else. Discuss.
In honor of the new Bill and Ted face the music movie due out in 2020 here is a song from Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey
I've had a slow day at work, so spent a fair bit of time on YouTube. After my usual random shuffle around through various genres, I had a listen to Jimmy eats World who've been going 25 years or so. I've previously only really listened to their early stuff, late 90s through to early noughties so thought I'd try some new material. It was a huge surprise to me the way their sound is evolving and have decided that the second track I've put on here (from their 2019 album) is my absolute favourite of all their material. Lots of bands change a bit over the years, and often not for the better but JEW have nailed it. Hope you enjoy a couple of splendidly different tracks from 2001 and 2019
Jean Michel Jarre and Oxygene II. I thought I was a little bit daft for liking this so much in the 1970s, but it sounded so different yet so accessible. I could melt away listening to it. I still have the album [just checked to make sure]. And here we are in 2019 and it doesn't sound dated, just niche. It's electronic orchestral, as Jarre always intended. And, by the way, bloody fantastic:
Excellent. I still find it a little strange that my favourite Jam track is in fact a version of a Kinks song.
Tina Turner turns 80 on the 26th. She did this excellent performance at Wembley ten years ago and she was approaching 70 then. What energy she had. She still has a great singing voice and her great legs
My favourite The Jam song - Start!: And, of course I'm old enough to have first heard Start! and wondered why it sounded oddly familiar. Well it sounds rather Beatles like, for starters. And it doesn't take long to find a direct influence. Taxman, from Revolver:
Big error looking through any Beatles list of songs on Youtube, these days. You find dozens of stand out tracks, in moments. But I post this one because the video is a classic, and because of what one commentatoer wrote. This is Something, from Abbey Road: Ok, so what did the commentator write? [Paul/John] We are the best songwriters of this era! [George] Hold my guitar.
