I've got that album. Actually, I think I've got 4 or 5 Donovan albums. Maybe 6. I can never remember. Must be all the bliss. EDIT: Looked it up. It's 4. I now remember lending someone a couple of his albums in NZ and I never got them back.
Just doing some boring arrangements for some time away, and meeting up with a few European friends before they won't be let near an Englishman again for fear of cross-contamination. Anyway, to take the sheer boredom out of it, I decided to play some travel music. But the best I could think of was Gordon Giltrap's old number. Then it hit me: Pat Metheny's great track off the Secret Story album. Aptly titled See The World.
The year is 1989 and mainstream music is very stale when out of Manchester came this band to launch Britpop and Indie Rock that must now be in its fourth generation since those momentus days. This particular has overtones of the Yardbirds imo. Step forward The Stone Roses!!
Did Donovan have an album called Tangerine Dream? Memories of childhood and Dad pushing the 8 track into the slot
He had singles called “Turquoise” and “Mellow Yellow” but not an album called Tangerine Dream. That was a German electronic band from the 70’s. Here’s one of their albums:
I'd say that Buzzcocks invented Indie Rock the previous decade Ides but The Roses were a very fine band and the Madchester scene was great.
America, not for the first time, I forgive you (for Donald Trump on this occasion. There'll be others)...
Ah, I see the Tangerine Dream question was answered. Phaedra is one of those albums that many people had but never seemed to play. At least not when I was around. Consequently, I don't know a note of it. I did think of buying it myself once or twice. And yes, you'd have thought Donovan might have had an album or song with that title, or something close to it.
Useless trivia alert: An ex-software engineering colleague of mine, Phil Becque, was the engineer on that album.
I have it - bought it when it came out. I found it one of those albums to play late at night either when you were on your own or when most people had left the party ..... just one for kicking back and letting the swirls of music take you somewhere out of yourself ...... (thinks to self - must get the LP out and give it another listen. Must be near as dammit 40 years since I last heard it )
Philomena Lynott, who campaigned tirelessly for a statue of her son to be erected in Dublin, has passed away. Very sad, but she managed to get them to do a statue in the end. I was at Phil Lynott’s grave a couple of years ago paying my respects and a little old lady came up and spoke to me. I took me a while to realise who it was. Remarkable lady and so friendly and down to earth. She seems genuinely interested in my story of seeing Thin Lizzy at Totton College in 1970 (or 71 can never remember .....) RIP - reunited with her dear son, who she called ‘a grade A idiot’ if I remember her words .....
I have my own, one of those 'bought it - played it - loved it - hardly ever played it again, albums. Oxygene by Jean-Michel Jarre. I absolutely adored that album, yet stopped playing it completely. A couple of months back I noticed the first track as a suggestion on Youtube [must have disturbed that bloody algorithm somehow]. I clicked on it and renewed my love for that album. But, instead of listening to it entirely in crappy 128Kmp3, I cut it short, dug out my album, gave it a good clean and played it. I ended up having one of those moments where you are glad that you bought a little treasure all those years ago.
For those who love to chillout, with a glass of wine and a good book, this álbum is worth a listen to. The last track is very moody!!
