R.I.P. Roky Erickson. Died in Austin, Texas, aged 71. One of these days, we're gonna wake up and find him gone...that day was last Friday
Samantha Fish also does a mean cover. I saw her at The Brook last weekend - she didn't play this one though. Her guitar skills take a back-seat on this one, a duet with one of the Allman dynasty.
Talking of vivacious blonde guitar-playing singers, I had the pleasure of driving and roadying my good friend Helena Softley to a gig yesterday. She’s not allowed to drive herself, as she had brain surgery to remove a lump (benign fortunately!) just 6 weeks ago. The gig, at the Southgate Inn in Devizes, was booked months ago, when her surgery was meant to be imminent, but it kept getting postponed, and even though it’s far too soon she thought she’d give it a go. She did brilliantly, although she was totally shattered afterwards.
And slightly more exciting news of a friend of my youngest daughter’s, whose blossoming musical career I’ve kept tabs on through Facebook. He’s about to do the biggest gig of his career, supporting Take That at Anfield on Thursday in front of 52,000 people! Here’s an example of his singing and finger style guitar, with one of his own songs:
Well, there is an indent button in the editor. Perhaps you brushed across it with the mouse or finger? Just guessing.
Old next door neighbour of mine from childhood. Love Helena, she's such a battler. I tried to get there but I was stuck the other side of Oxford. Southgate is only 7 miles from my house so was gutted to miss her again. Haven't seen her since the nineties but her parents and mine are still friends
Small world. She won’t be gigging for a while but I’ll PM you when she’s active again, perhaps we could meet up at a gig?
Steady, at home, good food, glass or two of a robust red and few Palm beers. Slept well, woke refreshed. However, in the past I've woken with a mouth that feels a though I've licked the bottom of a budgies birdcage.
Very sad, I meant to post something on Thursday but had to go out. A towering genius has passed. RIP Malcolm John Rebennak aka Dr John “the Night Tripper”
