Just found this blistering version of “Dazed and Confused” from 1969 featuring Jimmy Page’s legendary 1959 “Dragon” Telecaster that Jeff Beck had given him in 1966.
No real reason for posting this, other than it's Easter Sunday, I'm working a 12 hour shift, and the thrill may be gone, but the music is brightening my day...
The other day I was reintroduced to a couple of Led Zeppelin songs, both of which, when they were first played on the radio back in their day, I promptly forgot. I must have been very distracted at the time because they are like new gems to me. Apparently, I'm not alone. There are dyed in the wool Led Zeppelin fans who have never heard this, let alone once. It was recorded during the LZ debut studio sessions and never got onto Led Zeppelin I. This is Baby Come On Home:
Shame that Hendrix died shortly before the proposed recording session with Evans. It would have been a classic album, Weird how much closer Hendrix' music now seems to jazz than to rock...
Also dug out a Michael Mantler compilation the other day that I had not played for years. I am a bit of a sucker for Terje Rypdal's guitar but like Robert Wyatt's vocals too.....
And the other one is Travelling Riverside Blues which first surfaced in 1990 but nobody is really sure when it was recorded. Estimates are between 1968-78 which is a broad target. To me this sounds Physical Graffiti/Presence era: Note: Some of the lyrics Robert Plant sings comes off The Lemon Song from Led Zeppelin II, but which are also taken from Killing Floor by Howlin' Wolf. When I heard the two tracks above it was instant love again. The scope those guys had. Tremendous.
