My dear departed dad watched Live Aid, not that he really enjoyed much of the music, but his reaction to seeing Freddie perform was: “That bloke could take over the world if he wanted.” Not far wrong!
One quote from the comments on that YouTube video is perfect for me: Music Director: "Freddie, what instrument can you play?" Freddie: "The audience" Just watching the whole 24 mins now and he was incredible.
Marty Balin died last Thursday, 27th Sept. And a little bit of the 60s counterculture revolution died with him. R.I.P. Marty
Especially considering she'd been up all night. Because every single act over ran at Woodstock, Airplane came on at dawn, as did Jimi Hendrix the following morning. Wouldn't happen now, contracts and egos would see to that.
Riiiight where was I?... 1986 wasn't it?...I left Braziers and started worked in constuction with my mate as a self employed, "subby" Chippy (everyone was doing it then, look at my wad, loadsamoneyyyy!). In the news there were the Space Shuttle Challenger and Chernobyl disasters, Maradona's "hand of God" and Reagan met Gorbachev in a new era of Glasnost and Saints Perestroikas (geddit?) were Colin Clarke and Gordon Hobson. Who else remembers the Daily Echo headline proudly proclaiming that Saints had just signed "A World Cup Striker"? only to find out it was Norn Ireland's Colin Clarke...... It was also the second time that I left North London after watching Saints being knocked out in extra time by a Scouse team at the final hurdle before Wembley.... I have to start with this brilliant song from Paul Simon's groundbreaking classic Graceland album...
Indie music broke through and became more mainstream this year because of the exposure from the NME's compilation cassette C86... This is one of the tracks from it from Wolverhampton band The Mighty Lemon Drops...
And this was from an Indie band from Hull The Housemartin's great debut album, London0 Hull4, let's hope for a similar score at Goodison tonight..
I have been listening to this rather than listening to the match. To really enjoy this dead sexy and very beautiful woman and her wonderful voice you will need a certain degree of emotional maturity.
