Blimey Whiteley, are you psychic?, I had that exact song lined up to post..., i'll have to post one of theirs from their Romany period when it's '82 later on.
Ok, 1980 and I had just come of age and also had my apprenticeship as a Boatyard Joiner cut short because of redundancy when the Camper & Nicholson yard in Northam had to close ( boatbuilding is often seen as a barometer for the economy and loss of orders are usually felt first in an impending recession). I managed to get a job as an Joiner Improver for a local shopfitting firm but 6 months later lighting struck again and I ended up on the dole for quite a long period during late '80 and '81. Anyway music kept me happy through these turbulent times and here is what I was listening to... This one is from Talking Heads' best album IMHO, Remain In Light...
Swell Maps were taking Punk into an arty and experimental direction with their influential second album, Jane from Occupied Europe...
The Beat's debut album, I Just Can't Stop It is just so good and it never failed to improve my mood listening to it...
1980 saw the release of the first Killing Joke album and this was the lead single. The intro still gives me goosebumps.
