Magical song .......

 

Back in 1979 when I was attending the prestigious Polytechnic of Wales, there was a pub on the mountain, high above the wonderful town of Pontypridd where a local band would sing covers of Simon and Garfunkel. The Boxer was always the highlight of their set. Whereas the original had a whip crack after lie, lie, lie, they would shout BOOM TISH! whatever you do don't read this message or the song could be ruined for you too!

 

Inspired by Saints Alive's Duane Eddy post, I recalled this early Bangles effort. I never really need an excuse to watch Ms Hoffs rocking out!

 

Here’s a live version including the rarely heard extra verse which for some reason they left off the “Bridge Over Troubled Water” album. Worth a listen.

That was when they were a part of the Californian "Paisley Underground Movement" in the early 80s before they hit it big. It was a group of local bands heavily influenced by 60s music, especially Jangle Pop, Garage and Psychedelic Rock, it's worth a youtube search if you love these kinds of music.
Here are one of my favourite groups from it, they never made it big like The Bangles though...

Great song, and two great performers. Ella has the smoothest voice ever. Louis one of the most distinctive. This combination is perfection.

 

I was there in 1990 +. I met Sir Tom Jones too there, who originates from there [emoji16]

 

Pete Ham of Badfinger was born on this day in 1947. He wrote this wonderful song made famous by Harry Nilsson (and butchered by Maria Carey), but, sadly, committed suicide in 1975. I don’t think he ever got enough credit (or money) for the song.
Badfinger were the first group signed to the Apple label.
