Happy 63rd Birthday to a Punk great, Pete Shelley, Singer/Songwriter and Guitarist for Buzzcocks who was born Peter McNeish on this day in Leigh, Lancashire in 1955. He released 3 Solo albums in the 80s... This is the first ever release from an (their own) Independent record label that changed music history...
Happy 51st Birthday to Indie Singer/Songwriter, Guitarist, Liz Phair who was born on this day in New Haven. Connecticut in 1967...
Scouse Rock n Roller, Billy Fury was born Ronald Wycherley (no wonder he changed it!) on this day in 1940. He was a Singer/Songwriter, Musician and Actor.
Born in 1960, my early teenage years were devoted to bands like Floyd and Yes and even The Who! 76 came along and slightly punky stuff caught my interest. Before the Sex Pistols, the Buzzcocks and the Clash were making headlines Eddie and the Hotrods were my favorites.
Surprised to find a new Hopesfall song came out last week. Their album The Satellite Years is probably my favourite Post-Hardcore album, though Alexisonfire's self titled debut and Hondo Maclean's Unspoken Dialect would run it close.
No I haven't stopped because after 1976 came 1977 (I was 17) The music kept coming! To continue Harry's rat theme the Stranglers released Rattus Norvegicus and I rode round on my Suzuki Hustler 250 with a rat painted on my helmet!
and even made Fleetwood Mac commercial and helped make Formula one what it is today! (listen to the end if you're under 50)
of course not everyone wanted punk and some bands started playing tunes again in 1978 (my teenage was blessed)
I have this EP. One side has 'Play it loud' printed on the label, the other side has 'Play it louder'. Love it all. Here's another of their brilliant covers, the best of them all to my mind:
