Sad to say the Bristol Bierkeller, one of the best music venues in the West, or anywhere else for that matter, is closing to to redevelopment of the site. The ‘Keller hosted the first UK appearance of Nirvana, and has seen just about every rising star play there over the years. RIP the Bierkeller, you will be missed by generations of music lovers.
Sorry to hear that Chilcs, being redeveloped into a multi-storey carpark no doubt... There are still plenty of other venues though?, Brizzle has always had such a brilliant music scene. Here is a suprisingly good recording of the late, great Johnny Thunders playing the venue in 1987...
Perry did a great album called Ultra Payloaded. Had collaborations from Flea and Nuno Bettencourt on the album too, then strangely an unreleased Doors song as the album closer. This is my favourite from the album.
I would like to point out that the fact that I “liked” that was in no way a signal that I actually liked it.
Happy 76th Birthday to one of the great Songwriters, Carole King, who along with Gerry Goffin, wrote some of songs of the 60s that have become standards. After she divorced Goffin, she went on to have a successful solo career as a Singer/Songwriter and Pianist and her classic album, Tapestry has been rightly celebrated. She was born Carol Klein on this day in Manhattan, New York in 1942. "Carole King has been one of the most influential songwriters of our time. For more than five decades, she has written for and been recorded by many different types of artists for a wide range of audiences, communicating with beauty and dignity the universal human emotions of love, joy, pain and loss. Her body of work reflects the spirit of the Gershwin Prize with its originality, longevity and diversity of appeal." James H. Billington Librarian of Congress
Happy 63rd Birthday to "Cockney Cowboy", Sham 69 Frontman, Jimmy Pursey who was born on this day in Hersham (where else?!) in 1955..
