USP Usual Selling Point. Sign for us and in two years you'll be playing for Liverpool!! Stoke don't offer that, nor West Ham!!
Think it's Unique Selling Point...but same principle. Saints do promote themselves as a club to develop players....though they would like to hold on to them for at least a chunk of their contract
Thank you Fran!! Thank you for that and much appreciated!!!! Have some Mallorcan sunshine. I believe you need it. Actually we had a small storm and some rain during the early hours and up to around 8.30. Now it has stopped but the sun is struggling to come out.
When erudition is used, I am!! My finger touched the return key a tad too early, but now you have my response. Have some more Mallorcan sunshine.
Saints have been known as a development club for some time and because of that they have kept their head above water by selling players at a profit. It would appear though that they decided they no longer want to sell their best players by offering longer contracts. I accept that a lot of people will assume that all they are doing is trying to get bigger fees for the players because of the longer contracts. Looking the other side of the coin though, especially with their stance with VVD, maybe they have decided enough is enough, or they don't need to do that any more. Surely this is sending a message that they want to be able to challenge for more honours especially in Europe? If this is what is happening then as I have said before I fully applaud their actions...............
It's possible we want to have our cake and eat a little more of it. Sign a player on a four year contract and we typically had either two or three years with enough contract left to get a decent price. Sign a six year contract and get four or five years before selling on. That way we end up with the player for a decent amount of time plus the money. (Of course, if the player decides that six years = six months it may cause something of a rumpus...) Vin
I know where you are coming from Godders but I am a permanent resident. I may need to apply for an Irish passport if the UK goes ahead with Brexit but I just hope Mrs May sees enough sense that the Brexit talks are going to collapse and withdraws Article 50. It will cost her the PM but if she did do as I have suggested, it would enhance her as a politician putting the good of the country before the good of her party.
