We could make Osvaldo captain
His mission, if he chooses to accept it, is to take out any ex-Saints that he sees....that sadly for him, doesn't include Fonte (at least, I bloody hope not!!

Cork will never be the captain. This is between Davis and Fonte. No one else has a hope in hell of becoming captain assuming Schneiderlin goes.

Yes, we can't choose a captain until we know what the team is and on that subject it would be reassuring to see some quality coming in the door at the same time as so much quality seems to be leaving. I know that we are going to use the youth again, but there are some big shoes to be filled now.
I would agree that the logical choice would be Davis. Sadly however, is based on lack of tangible options. Hopefully we will get a new centre back to partner Lovren. If he leaves however, Fonte becomes out starting centre back with someone beside him (gulp!);in which case it could be Fonte. But honestly, the whole situation is academic until we know who is staying...
It should Be Steven Davis unless the board has a canny plot to let the rest go in which case Osvaldo would be the natural choice.
It is pretty funny that before this meltdown, a few months back, every single one of those players would be on the list of "Ideally we'll find an upgrade there" positions.
True - good point. I hadn't thought of it in those terms, but Davis was seen by me as a fill-in for a couple of seasons as we got him for a good price (GBP 800K?) and Fonte was in his own meltdown that first season in the Premiership with Jos beside him. If we had gotten another Lovren last season he might have found himself loaned out to a Championship club this season or the next. Here we are discussing making one of them our Captain next season because we need someone who will be seeing a lot of games.
I went Fonte, providing he signs a contract with us and is still here next season of course. He has been with us on our League 1 to Prem journey and I feel he would be a good choice. If not him then my second choice would be Stevey Davis, as others have said, captain of Northern Ireland and I feel he could do the job well, also feel that whilst we may not hear too much from him off the field, he really has bought into the Southampton Way - if it still exists

Surely not, the red tops said he was poised to turn down a contract extension. Surely they can't be wrong.
