Its because we are scoring so many that we are also conceding a lot. It is the way we are playing, and as long as we continue to score more than we concede then we will be alright. As someone rightly said we have the best GD in the league so nothing to worry about here.
I was joking with a mate, the other day, on what advice any beaten manager might give to another whose team is yet to play us. The conversation went: Beaten Manager: So how are you planning to play them down at St Marys..? Other Manager: Oh, I intend to go all out for a win. BM: What, score goals an' all..? OM: Yeah..! BM: Bloody hell, I wouldn't do that. OM: Why not..? BM: You'll just make them mad. They'll rip you apart..!
I agree. I think some people are just looking forward rather than what I'd happening now. People are getting worried about situations that have yet to even occur. I say enjoy the moment, (because it won't last forever). Love SFC! COYR!
maybe I should start reading "the power of now". screw it things are awesome, why am I suddenly worrying about things that haven't and probably won't happen! UTS!!!
Oh, do just wallow in it. The chances of seeing another winning streak like this in my lifetime is quite remote I suspect! But have you noticed how quiet it is on here and how few of the Pompey lads come on here giving it "all that". A good victory at FP later, and they disappear entirely!
You have to enjoy this moment now or when will you enjoy it. Yes, we may have to pay later but it sure is sweet now. At work, I have the Pompey fans dodging me. Love to say,'Good, this Championship lark, innit?' after every game. However, this forum would be delightful but repetitive if all we discussed was how good we are.
It is like anything you enjoy.......you want more and more, until you become complacent and it becomes old hat! There is a well known saying "all good things come to an end". So excepting that, lets enjoy it while it lasts. Then when it does happen.....you all can remember this run of results and say.......when are we going to have another run of results like we did in 2011........
Remember Newcastle in 2002/03? They finished 3rd in the Premiership with a goal difference of just +15. Also in 2004/05 Everton finished 4th and earned themselves a place in the Champions League qualifying stages with a goal difference of -1!
I had exactly that conversation with a Pompey fan in my local the other day, something like this: Me: Glad to see the natural order has been restored in the Championship then? He: Well it's early days yet... He's right, but don't you just love it!
It wouldn't be Saints without the worry of a soft centre. However, I have to say the Forest game presented a yard stick for me. The sort of game we would not have won a couple of years ago but it was clear to see that our reslience was in place. on the whole I believe our defence is improved since last year. The key to defending is the shift the strikers put in and we have no worries there.
She made a valid point a year ago and didn't get shot down for it, i thought if the point was made from her again it might get a more educated response than the abuse a post like this normally gets. Still it is interesting that a year ago we were concerned with our defensive record, but we all thought we were great going forward, Now you look at the saints team a year later and the same problem occurs only this time we're in the premiership and haven't scored lots of goals to hide the defensive frailties fran noticed a year ago.
What kind of "educated response" does it need? It's as if people like you imagine everyone else thinks the defence is ****ing A, they don't, everyone agrees it's not ideal. Most people just know how to deal with it. Just because not everybody is reacting like you and gomarching in, it doesn't mean you're the only ones tactically astute enough to realise the defence is a weakness.
Lol. Alright grumps. I was merely pointing out that it's not a knee jerk reaction after 4 games as people are suggesting it is it's been the same problem for at least a year.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Our defence will improve as the season goes on, look at us there having to go pretty far down the table to find a team who's conceded less. We ended up having the third best defence last season, be patient.
