I don't care how much we spend if we stay up - the money from staying up will far exceed what we have now Back to Dawson, We were linked with him in the summer, said it then would love him to join and I still would
I do care about how much money we spend. I really want us to stay up, but not by risking the club's future. You may come back and say "but the money is so big in the Premier league" and my response to that is always to ask how come so many Premier league clubs don't make money or are close to trouble financially. I'd like a player like Dawson, but the wages would have to be right. I hope we sign some good defenders in January, but I'd like the fact we have appeared to try and do it within our means. How many "just another £10k per week" on top of salary bill can we take?
Well, obviously I do care, don't want to put our club at risk but £7m won't break the bank, with the wages, I'm sure there's still enough room to manouvere there, especially if we let a few players go (as is probably likely)
True about some going. You did open your previous post with "I don't care how much we spend as long as we stay up ..... " I don't hold that view.
Fair enough. There is an undoubted premium when you buy English players. Look at us and Jarvis. It seems ridiculous that dawson would cost 7.5m and for a couple more million Spurs got Vertonghen. But as you say, he would improve your defence massively and could be the difference between going down and surviving which would make it 7.5m very well spent.
I think between now and the transfer window we are likely to attract attention to nearly all Tom, Dick or harry's that can kick or head a ball who is 6ft +. The same can be said about left backs or right backs that can play left back or cb backs that can play left back. Guys I think you get my drift. Everyone knows we have a leaky defence.....The few bob that Cortese saved during the summer by not buying or paying the extra needed to get his target defenders is going to cost him very dearly by the exaggerated fees for buying players in the January window......JMO.
Absolutely. And if we go back in again for Angelo Ogbonna he will cost us a lot more than the £12.5 million we were prepared to pay in the summer. The thing is though, Cortese now has no choice, unless he reneges on his promise that we will never be relegated on his watch.
Thought I'd add that he's not worth 7.5m as an individual. If we stay up though it would be more than worth it. Have to look at the biggest picture I guess
I might just be naive, but I'd assume someone in his position would be more willing to accept a wage in January which is lower than what they were demanding in the summer. If the reports are true, then his demands are now the reason why he's spent the last two months not kicking a ball, and probably won't kick one for the next two months either. So surely his desire to get back out on the pitch, especially at a PL club, would result in him accepting lower terms in January?
Presumably it can't happen until January? That may be too late, are there no temporary unattached players that could stem the flow?
Can a club buy a player outside of the transfer window in the Premier League only the rate we're going we'll be bottom and screwed come January....
The answer you are looking for is "no". They can't buy outside the window, however they can sign an out of contract player. An emergency loan is also available, but that is usually spared for keepers, rather than having a poor defence.
I don't know...shipping 24 goals sounds like an emergency to me Doubt there is any out of contract players available that are any better than what we have, although I'll be pleased to be proved wrong.
