Personally I think the best way would be just go red and white stripes most years with little changes and spins on it to try and keep it fresh while staying true to the club's image, then maybe every now and then throw the odd new one in there like the 125 year anniversary kit which I quite liked.
Wouldn't be surprised though with the club being streamlined into a formidable business as well as a formidable footballing unit (when we play against teams like QPR, anyway), if there were frequent kit changes to spur sales. I wouldn't like it, but I'd live with it.
Hopefully Nicola and the other bigwigs understand that whilst we appreciate the club being run in a manner to keep it financially healthy and stable, we also care greatly for our team's history and identity and whilst certain changes can be made for the good of the club, we still want this to be Southampton F.C., not Southampton Newco 2012. And even if we completely change the face of the club and propel it to new heights as one of England's best, that won't make the grimy old days at the Dell fighting for our lives any less enjoyable or any worse by comparison to European nights at 50,000 seater St. Mary's. Of course changing the kits doesn't completely besmirch the history of the club but just as a whole, I hope our business-orientated leaders understand the importance of a simple red and white striped kit to us. It's not just about the colours!
