Far from young and Hungry, but Wes Brown was excellent tonight for Sunderland and so was Giaccharini, really showed why many tipped him as one of the signings of the last transfer window. I think Poyet will keep them up, but they could be worth looking at if they maintain that form till May.

Does anyone else think we should go in for Tom Ince in January? He's out of contract in the summer so wouldn't cost that much.

Think he's a good player and if we could get him reasonably priced I'd go for it. Fits in ith the young British theme.

De Bruyne (probably on loan) is a pretty good bet I'd say, especially with Chelsea now out of the League cup.

A winger who wants more football prior to the world cup, who we have been linked to in the past and who would add good competition/quality in positions where we are a bit thin depth wise (players who like to play out wide).

He wouldn't be blocking a youth team player from coming through this season either, I don't think, as Isgrove/Rowe etc are not yet ready. I'm a little worried about us over playing the likes of Lallana, Rodriguez and JWP (and even more worried about a couple of injuries).

We're not getting De Bruyne, he's going back to Germany.

I wouldn't mind. He's way better than Zaha.

Really? If we are worried about over playing 23 and 24 year olds, something is wrong.

Yes please. Think he'll have a lot of options though.

Rodriguez seems as fit as anyone we have, but Lallana is slightly injury-prone and rarely seems to last 90 minutes. Anyway, it's dangerous to be too reliant on one or two players.

not only because of injury/tiring but in terms of not playing them when struggling for form/ pushing them to play better / providing better attacking options from the bench.

In certain areas we have got players who do, and have stepped up - those who have done so as cover fro Lallana and Rodriguez have looked a bit like square pegs in round roles (Ozvaldo, Davis, JWP, Ramirez all better in more central positions in my view and players like Guly not up to the same standard).

Would take Ince as well (and think we'd be the best move he could make) but do like De Bruyne. Accept the point that he's likely to be off to Germany though.

Premier League side Southampton are reportedly keen to sign Rennes winger Jonathan Pitroipa next month.

The 27-year-old has featured on a regular basis for the Ligue 1 outfit this term, having made three assists from his 17 appearances.

That form has alerted Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is keen to bolster his wide options during the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports News.

That was mentioned yesterday in a newspaper...always has gravitas when mentioned on Sky but they just repeat stuff the same as other papers and the internet.

Unless Mauricio can see he has the attributes to do well in our team.

I think a couple of older players in areas where we have youngsters ready or in the team would be wrong but in areas where we don't then I think it is feasible. i.e. having Lambert and Dani there at the moment while JRod gets time to improve from the left is a scenario I remember from Thierry Henry. I could see JRod being the one that takes over from Lambert, while Dani is quite obviously here for a shorter stay (I mean 1,2,3,4 years.)

I saw Quagliarella against Celtic earlier in the season and he looked very lively to me. Similar in style to how Dani has been playing for us but much more 'mobile' Dani can look a little stiff at times whereas Quagliarella 'buzzes' around. 2 year contract for someone like him could be OK and helpful to our youngsters as long as the wages are OK. I wouldn't have thought he'd be on much more than the rest of our team anyway.
