Cortese did have his scouting team constantly looking and bringing players to the club's attentions so there wouldn't ever be a panic buy.

Yes. Yoshida and Hooiveld were our first choice pairing for the majority of last season and they did ok. Injuries to central defenders are rare though and it's more likely Lovren will be back before we get another injury there.

Not sure what Cortese has to do with it. The club has a recruitment department which Les Reed oversees. His departure will do nothing to disrupt that.

Precisely. Cortese had Les Reed heading a department that ensured we wouldn't ever have a panic buy.

Unless you play for Southampton! We've had more than our fair share this season already.

Yes Yoshida and Hooiveld were our pairing for parts of last season but sometimes got took apart.....just I would like someone a bit better to call on than Jos at the mo, those mistakes will play on his mind.

After Pochettino took over they were solid enough. I know it's not ideal, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

I won't panic until we know the extent of lovrens injury, if its long term then we need to look to buy but if its not to serious I agree we could use Yoshida and Fonte to hold the ship steady.

We definitely need a central defender if Lovren is out. As nice as Jos seems to be, he is unfortunately quite bad at defending.

Can't see much happening until KL meets the staff to outline what she wants for the future.

She'll be back in Southampton on Sunday. She's spending next week interviewing the shortlisted CEO's personally.

I guess she'll then appoint one and sit down with them, Les and Mauricio.

Happy days. If that's true then she certainly hasn't been messing around. I thought it'd be a good month before an appointment was made.

A good CEO may not be available to start immediately...could already have a job.

They will be bought out of their contract if they do, of that I have no doubt. KL will want them imminently.

Matthew Dunn of the Express is reporting that Katharina hopes to be in a position to introduce the new CEO by the end of next week.

Sounds costly. Top division executives must be on at least 500k a year.

Cortese was paid £1.4m last year, was listed in the accounts.
