I think, and this is only what I have gleaned from responsible newspaper and media reporting, is that Katherina wants to sell the club eventually. I think that is in the shorter timescale than Nicola Cortese had in mind.

In the meantime, she doesn't want to destroy it, or turn it into a business that is worth less than it was two or three days ago.

Also, from what I have gleaned from responsible media, the only reason why Katherina and Nicola actually parted company is because she wanted an earlier sale and he wanted later, say two or three years when all the investment, made so far, will have borne some proper fruit. The investment, especially in Staplewood, is extensive and medium/long term.

Under those circumstances, if I put myself in Cortese's place, then my position in the company becomes unworkable, because my mandate has changed from the reason I had taken the job for, when appointed by Katherina's father. Whichever way you look at it, Markus had bought the company, under Nicola's advice [he was his financial advisor and close friend] and handed the reins to Nicola to make it successful. Which he has done. Let's also not forget that when Saints are sold, Katherina will make a nice healthy profit and someone will buy a very well structured and first class football club.

If it was me doing the selling, I'd wait those two or three years. If it was me doing the buying, I'd want it sooner rather than later.

Short and to the point....how often have we wished Saints would make statements like that. KL knows it's best for the club to stabilise at least in the short term. Finish this season well.

If it was me doing the selling I would want to sell sooner for £100m rather than have to put another £100m in over the next 2-3 seasons and then sell for £150m.

It sounds more to me like Cortese wanted more time to have more investment into the team before his 'Plan B' came in with an offer and/or his 'Plan B' is not ready yet to buy anyway.

 

In which case Cortese and his backers need to get their skates on, if that isn't an inappropriate phrase.

 

Thanks for response TSS, and you other guys. I guess if there is going to be the sale, we can only hope that she sells to a buyer interested in the club for the right reasons.......that they would be inheriting a healthy club able to push on and hopefully build on the success thus far. All unknown and for the future of course, and I would imagine would depend to a degree on how we proceed on and off the pitch from now.

 

Ignoring the fact that there almost certainly isn't a plan B for a minute, who says we need someone to put in £100m? We are guaranteed upwards of £60m a year until 2016 just from TV money (assuming we aren't relegated). That's more than enough to finance player purchases. We don't need any more money to be put in, we just need it not to be taken out.

 

To what extent can we believe it though?

 

I'm a fairly trusting person. I will always believe what they say, until they lie to me. From then on, I become more cynical.

 

Think we have to take things at face value for the time being. Nothing to suggest otherwise as yet.

This has been said for in several places.

So, when someone hands in their notice ( and continues discussing terms to try not to have to carry it out ) do you all expect someone like Cortese not to do anything in the interim? Whatever you might think of him he's a professional.

When I left jobs in sales, the one time I was actually asked to work out my notice, I carried on working as well as I could. Nothing unusual in that, IMO.

How much of that 60 mil is left after wages are paid? If the club really wants to progress from being "best of the rest" contender to top 6 contender then investment is needed. If KL or whoever owns the club is happy with our current level then not as much is needed obviously, but I would suggest that we would lose a large chunk of our first team who would realise they are capable of playing at a higher level.

 

Never too sure about how many of our players are desirable to top teams....a few youngsters perhaps. Feel a lot of the rest are in the highest team they will ever play for at Saints. Not criticising them...just feel they are better here than trying to fight for a place at say Spurs or Liverpool.

 

The TV revenue is not the only source of income. We spent £30m on transfers and still made a profit for the first half of the season, implying we could spend all the TV money on players and still be in the black if we wanted to, no outside investment required.

 

Are we still trying to sign a player on loan!? I think someone said we had our eye on two different players.
