He looked good but we can't just rely on him if Lambert is out for a bit.

I can. First there's the fact that we don't have a lot of time to get a good deal for him and replace him, and then there's the issue of Pochettino probably being quite determined to get the best out of him. It wouldn't look particularly good for Poch if our record signing left for a loss half a season later.

How about a rest of the season loan with a fee?

I'd agree with that, plus we would have to be selling now at a lower price. I'd much rather hold on until the Summer, see if there's a chance at redemption after the suspension/cool off and if it doesn't work we can sell on much better terms. He does have a World Cup squad to play for so it's in his interest to be on the pitch. And he's a good player.

José Fonte on the events of last week:

"This group is very strong, the togetherness is there. We know each other very well. What can I say...? I'm fine. It's been eventful, obviously. It's not nice what happened. I'm man enough. I took it and moved on. I hope everyone will move on and focus on what is important, Southampton Football Club winning games."

Does that answer the question? Perhaps not, but if José's feeling aggrieved he's not letting it show. Judging by Osvaldo's tweets this evening they might both be able to put that unfortunate incident behind them.

Tomorrow's Daily Mirror (yes, I know) say that Saints have opened talks with Juventus over a loan deal for Osvaldo.

Despite all the lurid stories from last week, this just doesn't seem to make sense. Whilst we might not be privvy to everything that goes on at training, he would have to go round clobbering a lot of players, pulling the legs off spiders, bullying kids out of dinner money, throwing stones at windows, etc for the whole squad to seemingly turn their back on him. If the squad is so together, would it not be worth trying to rehabilitate him rather than vilify him....?

    Osvaldo is a suck up.

    Sell him.

Violence is not tolerated in life, let alone in life.

    Get rid.

    Deep, man <laugh>

I don't condone what he did but these things happen. They should be able to get past it.

I'm not quite understanding your full message. Mainly because it makes no sense.

If you're saying, "violence is not tolerated in life, let alone in football", then you're being a bit of a prat too.

That makes an assumption that all was fine before this incident. It could be more of 'the final straw' where the players already not at ease with him have had enough.

I won't be sad if we don't bring any players in. We probably won't go up or down in the table and there is really no need to make hasty decision. If we can't find value for money or if the player we might want is very hard to get, then I'm ok if we leave the strenghtening of the squad for the summer transfer window.

Violence should not be tolerated on any levels. That's a fact. It's law abiding.

If people don't understand that then there is something very wrong.

What Osvaldo did was wrong. It is a breach of conduct, contract and generally normality.

If I went and clobbered one of my colleagues tomorrow and a week ago I said 'No hard feelings' do you really think any sort of bond with that person would ever be the same?

People lose their tempers. I've lost mine before and done stuff I regretted 5 minutes later. And you're saying violence is not tolerated in life - what about the man that was cleared of GBH after attacking a burglar. That well and truly ****s up your theory.
