Saints January Transfer Window Thread - Part II

The worst part of that is that its pretty likely Guly wont be at the club at the end of the season. His contract is up and he can sign pre-contract agreements with any foreign clubs now!

 

Considering the fuss in the summer, I wouldn't be surprised if we had all the money we were going to get then. Buying someone isn't just what you pay, but all the ongoing costs...a big commitment.

 

Not to mention the fact that decent deals are very hard to come by in January.

 

Yeah, missing out the January transfer window isn't going to make me lose any sleep at night. Based on the squad we have and the relative limitations of our league position (realistically we are going to finish either 8th or 9th I believe) I'm sure we can wait until Summer where there are some better deals to be had.

 

Exactly...we are in a bit of a limbo...no need to spend as we are unlikely to get into Europe or be relegated...the only reason to buy now is if someone we had wanted for sometime became available.

 

Jack Dovey was the one I had high hopes for but he's now number 2 at Eastleigh. Still young though.

 

Steve Mowthorpe just made his debut for AFC Totton...

After Cropper we've got three 18 year old GKs (Johns, Britt, White), I think they are used in rotation and none of them are really favoured at the moment. Impossible to say if they will play at the top level I suppose, maybe in three years we will know more.

 

whilst I agree in principle that this window won't affect our league position too much, the end of this season might give us a chance to look at a couple more youngsters and that there are better deals to be had in January - I'd still love to see us sign a top class centre back in January.

Centre backs partnerships can take time, as can allowing a player from abroad to settle etc. Going into next season with a settled back4, with Morgan and Victor in front of them would be a major platform to do something special I think.

 

Anyone ever wondered if Cortese leaving and lack of transfer activity are related? Wasn't it a disagreement over funds last year that was behind the previous resignation threat / scare.

Besides the obvious point that Cortese had more than just transfers on his mind, could it be KL's intention to rein in the funding, be it this Jan or over the summer break, that forced Cortese's hand!

 

We'll never know. Saints typically leave almost all questions unanswered in these types of situations.

 

Bloody awkward given we wanted a big signing and now it turns out she could cash in on every offer for any player...

 

Might as well **** this one down.
