    Éder's goal scoring record doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. I don't think we should be looking at the Serie A for a striker either. It's regressing in quality and isn't famed for having bags of attacking talent. Why doesn't Pochettino use his La Liga know-how and unearth a Michu or the like?

    His specific point, that the timing of the transfer window favours deals like this, where Chelsea have already played United twice so they won't have to face Mata this season, is a good one. His comments about his surprise that they would sell a good player to a direct rival are unfortunate considering the number of players he has sold to direct rivals in recent years.

    No, but United have to play against all Chelsea's rivals, but not Chelsea. If he makes the difference in any of those matches, that benefits Chelsea. So the question of "is it fair?" is a valid one, though I doubt he will get much sympathy for that view.

    Everyone knows about the January window, so transfers are open to everyone. I would have more sympathy for a team fighting relegation than for a team vying for the title...if you deserve it, you win it.
