Did Dean Richards also leave to Spurs in the January window? Or is that just my imagination?

Edit - nope, it was September. As you were.

Just to add my voice to the choir, personally don't feel that Puel has the players he needs at his disposal. I also suspect he's out of his element and a little out of his depth in the premiere league. He will learn but Combined, that is a poisoned chalice.

we simply cannot sell any of our first choice back 4 when it's the only part of the game performing (overall) but Investing or loaning in January and sustaining that over the summer with a proper clear out of unneeded players is essential (we have more than a few of those)

Pretty Radical overhauling is essential in my opinion for the first 11. We feel like a Bunch of rag tag leftovers of previous eras.

Martina needs to go. Davis, Jwp, clasie should be replaced with at least 2 more attacking minded midfielders leaving Romeu, Hojbjerg and Reed as holding players. Hard nosed call but I'd move both long and j-rod on as well as bringing in another third option striker. I'd be happy to see Gallagher take one of those for a season and see if he has got it.

If the club wants a quick win that I believe will improve team morale at the moment, just give Jose Fonte a new two year contract.

Although after being treated pretty poorly in recent months, I wouldn't blame him for now turning it down.

Davis is a good player but not sure how much longer he will be good enough. Clasie is a decent squad player but we have too many in his position so agree with him too. JWP should defintely be kept IMO, plenty of potential ato just 22.

Yeah, Jose turning down a pay rise in the Summer is the definition of being treated poorly. What has the club ever done for him and his career in the last 6 years?!

Yeah, I was being particularly hard nosed about jwp but a clean broom is needed thru midfield esp and Reed for me fills his role better when he gets a chance. They're all good players in their own way so they will all find new clubs if they are moved on.

Fair enough. I actually rate them all relatively highly, it's just that we don't need 6 defensive CM's so we need to move some on to make room for a more balanced squad. Seems rash but it is certainly required IMO.

Saints say they are ambitious.....ok fair enough..........Lets just look at their ambition. Moved up through the leagues after we went broke trying to stay in the premier. Announcement of 5 year plans........ mostly every time we got promoted.....great........selling our best players........not so great.........getting good managers......but unable to hang on to them.....not so great. Buying 2 or 3 players for peanuts selling them for a considerable profit.......errr Ambition?? Not replacing our main striker ....not great..........playing payers continually out of their natural position........not great.........not allowing players to play to their full natural ability....lacks ambition. Summary.......It strikes me that all the board want to do is be a premier league side....just survive.......with an odd flurry in the Europa leagues, if we are a bit lucky, just like we did before for 27 years.
Sorry Saints you are not the team of old and you are letting your fans down badly.........Its not the run of losses....although that is bad enough. It is how we are playing and sorry board, you are definitely showing a lack of ambition, more a survival rhetoric no ambition to really take us to the next stage the fans deserve.

    Rant over...another coffee needed.......

Its all down to interpretation. I think the pay upgrade was a new contract.

In the old League 1 days we used to sign anyone who scored regularly against us. How about doing that again. Snodgrass top of the list, followed by Sturridge, Just joking before the arrows start flying.

no ambition to really take us to the next stage the fans deserve.

Why do the fans deserve this? Because we stuck with them during the years of ****e?

Have a word with Port Vale fans. Pop into Wrexham sometime and mention our crap situation.

Frustrated? Yes, of course. I'll be steering clear of my local pub for a while after this latest defeat. I struggle to see how, despite decades of supporting a club, I "deserve" anything.

I reach for my gun when someone mentions lack of ambition. Les and the board didn't want the present situation.....for the first season since the Leihberr's came, things aren't working out. We aren't a team that plays with fire and takes risks certain that our vast commercial income, world fame and sugar daddy will save us. The board is trying to prove you can run a team in a reasonable manner with income supplemented by a good profit on players. Yes, that is the plan....was always the plan. This season is hugely disappointing....not for results as such....but for the manner of those losses. We all feel a lack of hope....but we must remember this is one half of a season. I will hate it, but will accept an adequate finish to the season and hope for better next season. If we are the same next season....then I will worry. The board may have got it wrong, but, as I said, there was no intention to it. They have ambition to do well, but sometimes things don't work out.

Spot on Fran. It's worth remembering that poll that TinTin made almost exactly a year ago, when we were in almost exactly the same situation as we are now, in terms of position and points. The 2 main exceptions are that we are in the semifinals of the EFL Cup, and that we regularly see Academy players in the first team. Koeman was, in hindsight, correctly criticised for not taking cups seriously and not showing the youth a clear path to the first team. Neither of those charges can be justly aimed at Puel, whatever else you might think of him.

As far as this transfer window goes, I want no departures, and I would settle for an incoming striker who can immediately click with Boufal and Tadić. These things build a momentum of their own, I reckon. Once somebody starts banging goals in, everyone will remember how to do it and the decent second half of the season will ensue.

The core of Saints fans have stayed with the team through and thick and thin...and will no doubt do so even now. After all the posturing by the board about the their ambitions and in their own words, "what our loyal fans deserve". By constantly selling our best players, repeating the rhetoric of their ambitions, yet still selling the better grade players. This surely is a contradiction of their own stated aims and therefore in my view is letting the core of Fans down by not at least appearing to try to achieve their aim. Sorry that is how I feel....that doesn't mean I will not support them or go and see them when I can...........
