Van Dijk going 2018-2019 season.

 

Sounds likely and acceptable sadly in the scheme of things. Hope Fonte stays till the summer though and not off in January.

 

Cannot try and bed in a new cb while adapting to a new manager and system. We would need a good solid CB with experience for the remainder of the season. Not that yosh has done anything wrong but I feel we need another quality cb.
VVD will still be here next season.

Imagine if we still had him in 2 years time. Little old Southampton would have one of the best centre backs in the world (although I believe he is that now).

 

100% he is that now.

 

We need to keep him. Full stop. There are very few like him in the world, and fewer still that we can get our hands on. If we have any intention of moving up, we'll need to have at least a couple players at or above top international class, and he is one.

 

Imho, I think he's going to do a Gareth Bale and end up playing in an attacking capacity in the future. If we didn't need him at CB, I'd love to see him be able to run at defenders regularly from midfield.

 

Puel said the future is known but it is a possibility. Let's just hope.

 

We just have to get the right partner for him. As much as Yoshida has improved, I would still like someone younger and better bought in, then have Stephens or McCarthy as 4th choice. Get the new guy to learn off Van Dijk so he is ready to replace him. For me as long as he doesn't go this season and next I will be happy, we can't replace two starting cb's at one go.

 

An apparent ITK on SW has said he believes we 'may of made our first signing.' for 'pretty big money'.

 

Agreed....Gibson (Middesborough) would be my number one choice, Keane (Burnley) second choice or Calum Chambers my third but no doubt we will have some unknown from overseas at half the price lined up

 

I doubt that the club will refuse an offer of 50-60 million in the summer.

 

For goodness sake.....the saga over virgil is so easy............a simple statement to the rest of the football world............

His value won't go down so they have no reason to accept unless VVD makes noises about wanting to go.
