A well reasoned and thought through piece. While you are about DTLW do journalists get backhanders from clubs for helping to sell or buy players only I am convinced some of them must be on commission the way they tout our players around the top clubs?

Can't argue with any of that....what we have all been saying since the summer about needing a striker. I can see no reason to sell Virgil midseason as he will be worth the same or more in the summer....and whatever the logical half of my brain says, I hope to keep him longer. We still need Fonte as well with such a crowded programme....and I would hate for him to leave with a bad taste in his mouth. May be too late to rectify that now though.

As far as I'm concerned, being ITK depends on the message. Saints getting an extra trillion pounds to spend = ITK. Fonte and Virgil leaving = the man's an idiot.

 

Only what some of us have been saying since the Fonte stuff started. So can't really argue with it.

For people that don't get why we shouldn't offer Fonte a extension(yet) it may help.

He is worth in the £60-£70million bracket. Just hope we reject the bids for clubs where money in no object.

 

Honestly, I would say that £60M is priced to tempt. If they had really wanted him out of the transfer reckoning I would have said £75M minimum. He is the best CB in the Premier League.

 

The article is good for once, basically says we will sell when we want and reject bids until then. Also says Van Dijk is showing no signs of wanting a move.

 

The Telegraph get info from the club, so is more likely to be accurate than other papers. However. I don't like prices (however high) being put on players as it still seems like an invitation to treat....just say NO.

But not in January....the price that would be worth tossing the season away is too big for anyone to be stupid enough to offer. We won't lose on Virgil if we wait till the summer or for another season (unless he gets a permanent injury). A named price just lays yourself open to be annoyed by other clubs.

Glad we've slapped a huge price tag on VVD. He could get into any side in the world and the fee we command for him should reflect that.

 

Claude Puel said in today press conference that because of the 6 year contract, it doeant matter whether we sell Virgil in January or 3 years from now; his price will not change.

Hopefully we use this contract to get another year and a half and then sell him for £60m. He is still young so has plenty of time to win trophies after he leaves. Good to read that article and hear Puel speak with such logic.
