This is a pivotal mistake for us. Unless Stephens finds his feet VERY quickly we have gone from a season hoping to press for upper mid table to a team hoping to avoid being sucked in.

 

Stephens played well against Liverpool. Not many played well tonight, so don't see why you are singling him out.

 

Strange one, Fonte cleary told them he'd be off all season. They had a long time to get a shortlist of a few at least decent cbs for a loan/short term contract. Now in the situation of relying on a youth player which isn't really fair on him (especially at cb as it's not a very forgiving posistion). Oh well, the striker situation in summer was also strange.

 

He's probably singling him out because an academy product with barely any top flight experience has suddenly become our first choice centre back. He's looked competent so far, but he will need to settle in fully extremely quickly if we're to have a reasonable second half to the season.

 

That's nothing to do with Stephens though, he can only do so much and so far he has been good. I am far more worried by Gardos being the only back up, with his injury record. If you want to blame any one it is the board.

 

Yeah, there's absolutely no blame on Stephens, or Gardos if he fails to meet standards. This one is wholly on the board/our recruitment.

 

Remember, Gabbiadini has been brought in as the replacement for Shane Long, Charlie Austin & Jay Rod.

 

And Pelle. And Mané. And Rickie.

 

I normally trust the board. Not on this one. Huge **** up. Unless DTLW is hiding a monumental CB signing in the next few minutes.....

Must admit annoyed that Palace have got Sakho - on loan! Thought the scousers said they would only sell him? They are just bitter. Very surprised we've failed to get a Centre back over the line when we desperately needed one.

Got a forward in which should of happened last summer.

Lucky we kept our 3 CB's injury free in first part of season with lots of games. One has left, the other injured!!
Very fine line now....3rd choice CB and an inexperienced youngster.

This transfer window probably won't define our future. But by god we better get the next one right!!!!
