Well, that's not quite true. Her father agreed (and funded) the initial Staplewood work, but Cortese had to get a loan for the additional work (which meant doubling the cost). A loan that has only recently been paid off with the increased TV money/transfer income. So the revenue from club itself has paid for a lot of it.
I appreciate that we know nothing and the article may or may not know something but the article puts me off. The article states they've just moved over to sport, made a sizable loss and then goes on about profit from player sales at Saints. No mention that they have plenty of funds to put into the club or any indication that they would continue to run it with the same principles. The article does not fill me with any desire for it to be true. If Katharina does want to sell I hope it's to someone a bit better than this lot sound.
Guys, until the end of last year I lived in Asia for several years and I can tell you that football is HUGE especially the PL, CL and EL. They get all of the matches live in HD. Now that we've established ourselves as solid PL contenders and have qualified for Europe two years in a row, there are literally millions of Chinese that know who Southampton are, if not where it is. They have absolutely bag loads of money and I'm sure having watched Leicester win the league last year, they are thinking that Saints can do the same. We always talk about going to the next level, but to do that means more money is needed and the club will definitely change. So, be careful what you wish for. If the stories are true it could be an interesting ride.
Kat hasn't really been interested since she inherited the club, both the club and her need to go her separate ways, this is a step foward if it's true.
That's not true....she has attended matches and events. She may be considering selling it, but she has shown interest.
As long as Les Reed and Gareth Rogers are still running the football and finances, I will be happy. If there is a wholesale change of the board, I will be a little bit apprehensive.
So we'd like a nice cash rich buyer who will leave us as we are...unlikely...I can see someone's brother-in-law being installed as Chairman. better for my sanity to wait and see.
What I should of said is she's only interested purely out of respect for Markus, can't fault what she's done and I thank, her buts not her main goal or dream is it.
The unnamed sources and alleged talks sounds bullshit to me. But admittedly that's because I want it to be bullshit. Makes sense for China to show an interest but it makes no sense to me for saints to sell. With the backing of the Leibherrs we are approaching a sustainable financial model. Why risk undoing all that and selling our soul for Chinese Yen? i think most people appreciate how big football is in China and how they are prepared to throw money around. You say money is needed to move to the next level which is the complete opposite of what the club have been saying for 6 years. Personally I would rather we go to the next level using a sustainable model.
