If Puncheon plays well and scores a goal that keeps us in the league, who cares what his attitude was like at the beginning of last season?
Guly isn't a winger, and often gets caught out when he cuts inside, though to be fair he did get much much better and tracking back as the season went on/ after the Portsmouth game where he got a lot of stick, maybe someone had some words with him to increase his defensive work rate. However, this Lens talk is exciting, he is totally different to what we have already, bar maybe De Ridder, who i don't believe will cut it in the Prem. And what we need is a diverse group of players, who are willing to share play time, so we field a team to face the opponent, i.e Guly plays vs Man City as he drops deep to help the midfield, and Lens (if he joins) will play in the games where we will expect to see more of the ball, as he is a route to attack through. It's ALL about squad diversity, we need more players to cut it in the Premier League, teams with a first 11 and no really good backups struggle badly in the top flight, Birminghams explosion a few years back as well as Blackpool being some examples. So in my opinion the more commited players we have to the cause the better we will fare, Adkins obviously see's him as what we need, and i will never ever doubt the dealings of him after recent success' in the transfer market! Big things happening to Southampton ATM, and I for one, love it! RLSGM.
Sorry Dan, but if you are watching PSV v Benfica in a preseason friendly on the best afternoon we've had all summer, well, we all know where this is going...
Simon Peach: "I understand the Jeremain Lens to #SaintsFC stories have some legs, but the Alexander Büttner deal is all but dead. More to follow tomorrow."
Spoke to peach about this the other day... The reason the buttner deal isn't going ahead is absolutely ridiculous. Not sure I am allowed to say though. I will have to check. And I know that this will serve as a completely redundant comment as a result.
His dad told me to tell you the reason is because he's not as big as Cortese's dad, not sure if true.
In what way is it ridiculous? The way Vitesse have gone about it or its a pretty petty incident which Saints shouldn't have overreacted?
Nah... Wasn't through any fault of saints or vitesse apparently. They both handled themselves well. Its all about the mysterious "3rd party".
Glad we didn't sign the lad, the signs just didn't seem right, although he looks a decent prospect, he needs to grasp control of his future before its derailed by greed.
Yeh. Didn't know if it was known or not. Hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere. Buttner seems genuinely disappointed. Pretty greedy of his dad to ask for a "finders fee". Oxo cubes dad would have had a field day if he thought of that one!!
how does up bringing have anything to do with quality or team work? Stevie G came from a working class background and hes a fantastic player and a good addition to any team across the world!
