Well, hopefully if the deflected shot was already on its way in, then the goal wouldn't be considered as an own goal. I think goalkeepers come under that same ruling, because 1] they are deflecting a goal bound shot, and 2] they can score an own goal, for example when a ball bounces off a post or the bar, hits the keeper and goes in. Of course, it's the inconsistency of referees in their application of the rules that annoys.
I nearly mentioned this earlier, but of course it was a non-goal. I was stood in the family centre that day above the Milton Road End. What a strike.
Without doubt the most exciting football team that i have ever been privileged to watch - i just feel so lucky to have been around to watch this team play. Often wondered what that team would have been like if they could have had Le Tiss amongst them too - although they attacked so fast and so often they didnt really need him. Ref above disallowed goal by Keegan - i remember this one too, and being aghast with the ref when it was not given. Replays on MOTD did seem to show that Spike was offside though. And yes, Kev was quite wrongly often described as a hard working but not particularly skillful player by the media - something which i always disagreed with, as he was very talented + hardworking. I was on a ship in drydock in Hamburg when he was playing for them and some of the shipyard fitters took me to see SV Hamburg v Buchum and Keegan was excllent in that team too - the Germans loved him and called him Mighty Mouse ! I couldnt buy a beer that afternoon ! And i couldnt believe my ears/eyes when he signed for the mighty Saints not long afterwards.
Great days Dman! I still think if we'd had Shilton and Keegan together we'd have won the league. Will always be a regret that their times didn't overlap!
