Saw his first game for the reserves and he was shocking, went off at half time. That was the last time we ever saw him, seemed like Ali Dia all over again!

I stated earlier that no Asian players have played for the club, but two players have Asian surnames, Nicky Banger and Francis Benali, although both were actually born in Southampton.

Many years ago we did have a reserve called (I think) Joe Pang who was definately of Asian stock. I'm sure there was a picture with him in it in McMenemys 'Diary Of A Season'.

Jelle van Damme was a left back who we purchased from Ajax for a couple of million then did not play him before loaning him out to Werder Bremen on our relegation to the Championship. He then came back to play for Wolves in the Premiership but only for a season. Pity as everyone hoped he would be the new Ulrich van Goebbel who was great but we didnt hold on to him for long.

Where was Ali Dia from? Was it Liberia? His entry counts more than some academy players who have been mentioned on here.

Cosimo Sarli was Italian....I remember he scored something ridiculous like 11 goals in 4 games for the reserves and was being touted as the next big thing. I went to see Saints reserves play colchester and he scored again, but was only half decent. It was a young Lua Lua playing for colchester that caught the eye and scored a blistering free kick.

I also remember us having a couple of chinese players on trial...I think one of them was zheng who went on to play for Crystal Palace.

Robbie Slater for the Australian selection
