Your assertion that Lemina is a Pellegrino signing just has no basis though. We scout players long term and have a list of targets. That list is talked over by committee, including managers, who can also put in personal recommendations - but those tend to be cheap, backup options (Puel - Pied, Koeman - Martina).

Our major signings are all players that have gone through this more rigorous process, and are not ‘management picks’ as such (though I imagine the manager would have power of veto).

So please don’t use this one to bash Puel/support Pellegrino, because it just has no basis in how we actually operate in our recruitment.

I will reiterate though, I don’t think Puel was a good appointment particularly, and I supported (perhaps wrongly), his being moved on. I definitely think, nice chap though he seems, Pellegrino is a lot worse.

The answer the all Saints' problems, sack Pellegrino. Just wait a moment. Who will come in to replace him, what top manager is out there to step into the breach? So perhaps getting rid of MP2 is not the best solution. OK, let's spend in the January transfer market but there, again there's a problem. What top players are going to come ot a club battling relegation? As for moving on players not deemed up to the standard required, there is a problem. Who is going to come in and take these players off the club's hands. So SFC need to do a lot of thinking and assessing about what it wants to do in the immediate future. At the moment it seems as if the players do not really believe they are going to be involved in a relegation battle. It would be kind of ironic if Billy Sharp was to fire Sheffield United into the Premiership, while SFC slide down into the Championship.

Maybe we should go in for Sharp in January?

Sorry Beef, but there is no way Boufal was a Puel signing.

Isn't his agent on record as saying he was agreed to join under Koeman, but then Koeman left and Boufal had to be convinced to still join?

I might have that wrong though ...

For those suggesting we take RK back surely you can’t be serious? If he can’t make it at Everton with the players they have. He sure ain’t going to save our bacon!!!

What top manager? Anyone wanting to earn £3m a year and give themselves a step into the richest league in the world.

    And me

The sun rises; we open our eyes, and utter a silent prayer that we still are.

We resolve to make the most of it. But first: cup of coffee, the morning paper, and into the chair...our resolve melts before the simplicity of waste, our best intentions unable to overcome a lifetime of inertia. Condemned to push a boulder forevermore, unable even to summon the will for the first shove. Pity the selfish ones who try; it's only a marathon if you're running from something. Atrophy is its own reward. Fewer burned calories means a smaller carbon footprint, right?

Sorry, I had to get my money's worth out of the bleak and awful match thread. Is extracting maximum bleakness a positive? I'm bad at this.

Yes it's pretty grim. , but as a manager what can you say when your own player tries dribbling out across his own penalty area away at anfield.

seriously? nobody will gives toss about Taking credit for signings if we're playing championship footy next season.

Our starting eleven seems to have lost their hunger as it virtually picks itself. Some hard cleansing needed, with a few "star" names being moved on. Ask Mqueen , Sims and hesketh if they're hungry to play!

Especially when, if he’d only looked up he had Redmond on the wing beyond the halfway line as an out ball.

We have a similar problem under Pellegrino as we had under Puel.....which suggests to me a problem with the players. The board probably don't want to sack another manager....so they have to try and revitalise the team with strikers who can score. Gabbiadini did initially and looked like the answer, but not now. We were told at the time that he was a sporadic striker, so is now in his expected dry spell. Both Long and Austin have had their moments, but all our strikers have stopped scoring at the same time. We can blame the manager, blame the set up, blame every other player, but the fact is that if we had a Lambert or a Vardy, we'd be scoring goals. We need a striker who scores for fun....going to be hard to find in January, but the board has to try. I don't believe this stuff about who would join a team in our position...we are Premier League...lots of players would like to join us. We won't sign the really top players, but then we never would....remember players still joined Sunderland and Newcastle when they were struggling. We are an 'in' into a league many players want to join. The real problem is availability....such a player(s) is going to cost.

The right player would probably revitalise the other strikers...their nerves must be shot to pieces. Unless a footballing genius is out there to manage us (and please don't say Allardyce....because we would have really abandoned who we are if we go for him*), we have to stick with Pellegrino (for now) but give him better tools.

*And Big Sam has already indicated he won't accept a quick fix job....hew wants a proper contract.

Nice (?) long post as I intend to go away and lick my wounds.

Anyone else who went to the game...did you guys spot Cedric having a chat, a laugh and a handshake with Mane in the aftermath of the second goal? Really pissed me off
