Just back from Iceland (the country) so did not see the match on Saturday and I’m very glad I didn’t. Will not read the previous match thread. Will not follow this match. Good day to you Sir.
I mentioned during the game on Saturday about how Armstrong in the hole, and Gabbi coming in of the right, is looking like a good fit for us offensively (albeit very early days, and pretty weak opposition to judge against). But when you throw in starting Redmond and Charlie too, and the fact that we play FBs who like to get forward, and the fact that neither of our two CMs (who I really do rate, btw - as I do Redmond this season) are a rock like Wanyama nor a terrier like Kante, it doesn't half leave us exposed at the other end. No-one can convince me that Hughes, by and large, isn't trying to be more positive than in our last two years. But we just don't have the quality of players to be effective at both ends of the pitch. At best it's only one end at a time. At worst, it's at neither end. And more than that, it's not even like we have the attack to compensate for the defence, when setting up to attack. Neither in terms of the Kevin Keegan style, 'I don't care how many we concede we'll score one more', nor in terms of the Man City style, 'we have so many quality attacking players on the pitch and never give the ball away that you're defending so deep that you can't get at our defence even if you wanted to'. If we actually had a quality, threatening attack, a lot of opposition teams wouldn't get at our defence so much. As it is, you really don't need to worry out leaving men back to deal with Charlie Austin counter attacking you!
A very constructive post! It’s not like we’re playing absolute rubbish but concentration lapses and indifferent decisions by players during the game(Cedric/Wesley) are costing us. Also the collective retreat once we take a lead, that needs addressing but I agree better to watch and actual personal performances are improving as you say. He’s tried different things and is prepared to take a risk. I’m wondering if the players are making their voice heard about potential change? That might sway things!!
Five at the back and we are more solid but don't ever look like scoring. Five in midfield, with Armstrong free and we score goals but are porous. The agony of choices
Gunn Stephens Vestegaard Bednarek Targett Romeu Davis JWP Armstrong Elyounoussi Obafemi Subs: Lewis, Yoshida, Valery, Hojbjerg, Redmond, Slattery, Austin

Matchday Cup match under the lights? Can't beat them and looking forward to what I think will be a good game. Gonna be ****ing cold mind. Up the ****ing Saints
Is obafemi a striker or AM? My choice; Gunn Youth RB Stephens yoshida target Romeu Lemina Jwp Armstrong obafemi Gabbiadini Don’t know enough about the u23’s maybe we should play the lot?
I was pretty confident we were going to lose until I committed to doing something I don't want to if we won, and now the realization that it's technically possible for us to win is dawning.
Puel says that the late owner was targeting winning a cup, this season. He and his players wish to honour that, so they will be upper than up for this match. For most of the game, at SMS, Leicester were very flat, until we gifted them the equaliser. I can’t see them being the same, but I can see us gifting them a goal, or two. I would like to be proved wrong.....
think we should rest Armstrong, don't wanna burn the wee chap out and forego his hat-trick against UTD!
