Liverpool is to introduce a salary cap for Academy players....with top ups for U23 games etc. Saints are cited as an example of a club that have already introduced this....the club saying they would rather lose players chasing money. Apparently there is a relationship between players being highly paid and a failure to progress in the game.

5 goals in 809 mins (or the equivalent of 9 full games) is really not a bad start for the lad. Particularly bearing in mind that Blackburn are one of the poorer Championship outfits so far this year. Looks like a loan arrangement that we could see some really good value from.

I thought he had a decent turn of pace for a lad his size when appearing for us.
Like a Kenwyne Jones, he has the natural raw materials.
Good to hear he is getting over the bad time at MK dons

Koeman didn't want to know. He didn't want to know, nurture, encourage the younger players. They were just there, with no hope of breaking through.

Claude is a breath of fresh-air ... the twatty lying dutchman would have had Yoshida at LB!

Koeman is at it at Everton as well, youth players not allowed eat at the same time as the first team, not allowed to use the gym with the first team, train apart and he probably does not watch the games either. Everton have at least 5 youth players that are ready to be first team selections, will be interesting to see how many make it
 
Now that the first team are finding their feet in the new system, the one youth players that could really make a big impact could be Seagar, I do not know how far away he is from coming back but if all goes well he could make a big impact after January. His main strength is his knack of being in the right place for the loose ball, something which can not be taught, I can see him being Charlie's reserve by the end of the season if his rehab goes well

Found that interesting and encouraging. I have always felt (unless someone ITK corrects me) that Les Reed wasn't that upset when Koeman left. RK was virtually unsackable after such a good season....but I suspect Les wouldn't move heaven and earth to accommodate Koeman in any demands. I suspect he was edged towards the door with Les waiting to slam it shut once he was on the other side.....is that what happened with Nicola? Reed isn't a man I'd want to take on (even though I love having him at the club).
 
Someone (probably on here) has pointed out that if you're a manager hoping to move on, there's absolutely no point in playing the kids. The upside is a long way off, so why bother?

As an aside, is it possible to go to Staplewood to see academy games?

I agree that short term gain is probably most important to a manager....especially as he may be given little time by a club, but I do like to think that some people are altruistic and actually do things for the good of others. It is possible to encourage youngsters by talking to them and introducing them to first team training without putting your job at risk. I think Koeman is a bit lazy and perhaps not as nice as he might appear at first.
