Following a discussion with Mrs Greensaint last night I wondered if anyone knows how much a 18yr old academy graduate would typically earn. I know it would vary but our discussion was around the rewards/motivation compared to 30yrs ago in football. My view is it has huge effects on aspirations and career decisions for the youngsters.
Here is what happened so far to the team that won promotion. It is no wonder that the present Under 23's are struggling to get any results.
And N'Lundulu & Ferry have missed most of this season injured, so it's only really O'Driscoll, Olufunwa & Hamblin who are still around.
Now you mention it, I think he was as well Christ, no wonder they're struggling. They've lost practically an entire team.
a few years back it seemed like players in our u23's might die there of old age. Now we have a higher annual turnover than Amazon.

This is really quite interesting. What is fascinating for me is the quality of teams the academy players are leaving for as a good proportion are outside the top four tiers. The last "academy" player snapped up by a Premier Team was Matt Targett.

When I saw the U23's last was against Walsall in the strange cup, it wasn't just that they got thumped by the L2 but it was the complete lack of structure, tactics and skill that was so disappointing. Slattery looked like Grealish in that company and stood out, the Walsall fans all around me were shouting to their manager to buy him as he was so much better than anyone else on the pitch by miles.
