No youngster would move to Arsenal for footballing reasons...they just want the money and kudos whilst their career treads water for a couple of years. Arsenal aren't the worst team to move to, but any youngster is better off here. If they think their promotion is blocked here, it will hardly be better at Arsenal.
Nothing new about Callum Slattery http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/arsenal-chase-callum-slattery-transfer-3434341 Check the dates.
EPPP is such a joke. We have a category 1 setup, arguably the best in the nation. And Arsenal or any other big club can still take players like Slattery from us for a couple hundred K, max.
The club should just come out and say, "you poach our youngsters, we refuse to do business with you in future". That would soon put off these ****ing vultures.
The FA should come out and say....any club poaching a player before they sign Professional terms will have to pay a higher fee...2m maybe. That also protects the smaller clubs that we may dip into.
Tough on us but we are fairly rich...far harder on little clubs for whom the sale of a good youngster could keep them going for a few years. Didn't like the sound of it when it was introduced...the lower leagues were strong armed into it by being threatened with the loss of PL support in the future. I remember when I was at work our annual large bonus was removed and replaced with a higher hourly rate...it will be the same, we were told. I snorted because I knew that after a year or two we would be out of pocket as they wouldn't have to increase our hourly rate by as much to remain competitive....and so it proved. I suppose some teams with youngsters lose out, whereas all teams get their share of the PL money. However, let's face it...the PL wouldn't introduce something because it favoured the little guy.
but not a big enough share ... in my opinion. Football should be football, one sport, one nation. Unfortunately it is two sports here.
