Without Lalllana we beat West Ham, but I accept that we look better with him - he wouldn't be the highly rated player he is if we didn't. To the general point, I know exactly what Archers Road means. There are those who whinge whatever is happening. The Guardian famously referred to the Archers Road Whine, but it is not unique to Saints nor is it a new phenomenon. I recall a group of fans who loved to slag off Channon - too often offside, not enough goals etc etc. 45 England caps did nothing to quieten them as they slagged off one of the all time greats. I can still recall my shock as a youngster to hear someone tell Terry Paine that he was "f***ing useless" when he was in his pomp and made full backs quake. But Scouse mates tell me that Dalglish had similar from some fans, and it is the same everywhere. Some people think that the purpose of going to the match is to scream abuse at our own players. Freud would have something to say about this, I'm sure.

oh don't get me wrong. great result against west ham. would've taken that with or without Lallana. Just meaning with Lallana there is potential for us to beat people heavily even if we do concede from being more open like 4-3 newcastle stylee.

Without him we score a lot less but still seem to try to play the open attacking game which is a bit dangerous with the lower goal threat we have when he isn't on the pitch. The goals he adds both by scoring but much more in creating (even if indirectly by creating space for others to play) may well be missed by many. We aren't Barcelona and don't have the rest of the Spain team playing when our 'Messi' isn't on the pitch.

I'm as happy as with the team, the position, couldn't have asked for more. Just wish we would play less open when we haven't got Lallana and the goals he scores/creates.

I think every Saints player is ****, we should spend 200 mil in jan and bring in Tevez and Delap, Gazza and Henry and owen.
Also think we should sack adkins and get aidy boothroyd as he likes Saints so much.
I also think we should change our red and white stripes for this:

he he. like the sarcasm :) I'm happy with what we have. and i'll be happy keeping that with only a couple of additions for the prem :) Team spirit is worth more than superstars additions.

We will get there. if not this year definitely next year. and those who keep moaning about players not being 100% on form for every match will still do so even then. The rest of us are still remembering the empty space in our soul from 18 months ago when we were trying to take in that our team could disappear within weeks/months :) COYR

Well, if there is one theme running through an awful lot of the recent threads, it's a debate about, er, whether we should have a debate.
That is kinda what this site is for, isn't it. I may not agree with St Goodness (and I suspect that St Goodness doesn't always agree with St Goodness!), but I defend his right to express his views. It is then up to others to either ignore such posts, or to enter into a reasoned argument about why they are incorrect in their analysis. It doesn't seem quite right to say he shouldn't post his opinions on, er, a forum!

I assume that discussions such as this are popular because there is not much else to moan about and footy fans do like to have a moan. There is none of this introspection on the Pompey board at the minute. They are more preoccupied with real problems such as who their next manager might be or how they will cope when the injuries and suspensions start to impact trim their already small squad.

If rumours going around Twitter are to be believed, Leicester fans will soon be preoccupied with that too.

Indeed, betting on him being the next Championship manager to go has just been suspended.

I don't think anyone was trying to can St Goodness, or to a certain extent, argue with his opinion. It was the manner in which he expressed that opinion, that got up a few noses [mine included, I suppose], and to read his post, one would have thought Saints were seriously underachieving. There was little tempering of his frustration and disappointment. No acceptance of what Saints are actually doing well, to go with where they are going wrong, in his opinion. These things are to be balanced, especially when you are talking about a side who are 3 points at the top of their particular league. I have no problem with people's differing opinions, but for their own sakes, if they wish to be taken seriously, then they need to balance their argument. I should say that, by and large, I find StG's posts almost always entertaining and informative. It was just the one.

Tbh if i see a thread i don't like id rather not post then just write any old ****.
If you don't like a thread or what someone has said just ignore it, it's easier then just going over it or how you disliked it in another thread.
Which i see as pointless, but then again everyone has there own view on things.

Poor spell of 'whether' we are having! It is not impossible that the score that you predict could happen, that is the beauty of football and why we all have our opinions, which should be respected even if they are wrong. Who would have predicted that we would have got a draw on Saturday, at the time that Hammy got sent off? People should be able to vent their spleens if that somehow gives them some kind of perverted pleasure, all I ask is that sometimes you think before you post. Sarcasm is the poorest form of wit they say, but sometimes it can be a useful weapon and also amusing in the right context, keep the posts open and general and avoid getting into a private and personal war, please.

Agree with all of the above. Our players have created a rod for their own backs by overperforming this season.10 weeks ago we would have all been raving about how good a 1-1 draw is away from home with 10 men against a Reading team who almost went all the way last season.

Maybe he finds he gets more of a reaction by being outspoken?
I don't always agree with St G, but it's usually worth reading.... With a pinch of salt;)

Bit of an over reaction Saintinoz imo. Your always going to get some negative posts when Saints don't get the result we all want but to be fair it is only a minority who do this. Like you said it is a great time to be a Saints fan, so give the majority of us some credit after all its not too long ago we all had to endure some hideous times.

Annoyingly Brighton let West Ham win. Be nice to get a big win on Saturday to improve that old goal difference, though will accept 1.0.

I think it's best we keep playing openly even without Lallana. So far without him we have remained unbeaten and created plenty of chances. As we all know Lallana isn't the greatest finisher, so without him I still feel we have a chance of scoring a decent amount of goals.

To be fair it is not so much what he says its the way he says it that causes me most problems. One of my pet hates is sarcasm!! Sometimes I can see some justification in it......on here we will not let it be used to provoke anything other than discussion. If it is likely to it will be deleted!! To me the Sarcasm was unwarranted and unnecessary it is sad perhaps that he needs to use such things in the guise of provoking discussion. To me that is not good debating points, just poor debating skills!
