As much as we deny it, hoedt coming in surely means vvd is off.
Everything I have seen and heard of hoedt so far is extremely promising though. If he can come in straight away, I'd be tempted to pair him with Stephens and drop yoshida to third choice again.

Hoedt is Fonte's replacement.
If VVD goes, it still leaves us with only 3 CB's. Gardos doesn't count as he hasn't played a PL match for God knows how long. I would expect to see Hoedt and Van Dijk to form a partnership from September onwards.

I think you are right, though new owners give SFC an excuse for the mind change. They made us do it, lads and ladesses. Of course that would put Gao in the position of being instantly disliked by the fan base....and could make Les walk.
