If he's done the medical why not announce it tonight? Surely these contracts are not dependant on a bleep test...

They still haven't completed the paperwork. Wanyama had a customary tour and did his medical assessment today after coming down.

Saints always put players through a bleep test. It's standard procedure.

That's due tomorrow morning before the paperwork is signed and faxed off to the authorities.

Part 1 of medical complete - Assessment stage with Doctor
Part 2 will be done tomorrow morning and involves fitness testing.

Virtually a done deal though.

What do they actually do in a medical? Is it like the solent videos we have been seeing where they are put through their paces, or is it more like a doctor does a few tests and checks a few things?

The daft thing is that everyone in the British Isles (apart from some fairly recent immigrants) are the same people. A DNA survey a couple of years ago revealed that people in the Celtic fringe just have a slightly higher % of Celtic DNA than do people in Birmingham for instance. Go back a little way and the UK had a population of a few million people...we are obviously all related.

That's hardly surprising as the Celts were not really a separate race, more a separate culture that spanned Europe from Spain to the British Isles and was comprised of a variety of racial backgrounds. The Cornish were seen as a separate race by the Romans, and were thought of as more closely related to the Welsh and the Breton tribesman than the rest of Britain, so it shows that the Romans were wrong too

Bleep test followed by customary saints player interviews and photos with criminally large watches on display

I met a guy from Cornwall while watching the Lions on holiday and he kept saying "You English bla bla bla.."

You English FFS? Where does he think Cornwall is?

Being a bit Cornish myself, I have heard that a lot - I think it just stems from their relative isolation from the densely populated areas of the country, and a resentment that they used to be a important part of the country due to Tin production, and now they are just a tourist destination

This is not quite accurate. Ancient Britons were basically all Celts, before the Romans came they were scattered all around Britain but the Romans and Germanic people pushed them back to the extreme West and North. Boudica was Celtic of course and she was English. The Celts were genetically distinct and still have distinctive features like the unusual combination of dark hair and blue eyes. Of course now most people who live in Wales or Cornwall today are mixed with everyone else and few if any are "pure" Celts.

Where do the Picts fit in all of this ??

On my visit to Andalucia in Southern Spain, I met a history expert. The Celts were in Spain at one point and some place names reflect that. The mountain town of Ronda is so called because it is a Celtic word for surrounded by mountains (as in Rhondda in Wales).

The Celts might have been Genetically different to the later Germanic inhabitants of Britain, but they were not one people and had genetic differences from one another, and wouldn't have considered themselves to be remotely related to other tribes. The culture was what defined the Celtic peoples, not their genetic background. Celt derives from a greek word for barbarian, and was applied to a large number of different tribes of similar heritage

I would have you would have known that there is a deep seated Cornish feeling that they are true Britons and the English are a collection of foreigners. I thought this was common knowledge. Here's a link to read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornish_people

I did know most of this, but I am a realist and am quite aware that any separateness that the Cornish might feel is mostly in the mind as the "race" has long been diluted by immigrants and invaders over the last 2000 years, and that the language and culture are clung onto by such a tiny minority of the Cornish population that it is hardly relevant.

Anyway, Has Victor signed yet?

Shouldn't think that would be too much fun facing an Atlantic/Channel storm. On the other hand, a very nice part of the country. I also like the idea of the road disappearing at high tide.

He is a fisherman and in the summer does the wee boat trip when the tide is in. He lives in a tiny cottage on the harbour. That area and in particular Marizion beach is my favourite place in the world. My mum rests there now and when I'm gone, I'd like to join her there.

By the way, Marizion beach is not the sandy one where you walk to the Mount, it's just tucked around the other side of the wall, and only accessible don a tiny set of steps hidden down a side street. Best rock pools ever.
