I have no idea what his wages currently are. It may be he wants an unrealistic increase, it may not even be the basic wage. Could be image rights, a release clause, bonuses… whatever. I can just see there being more to this than an agent fee, particularly if Celtic were prepared to top up what we were offering.

Same thing happened with Buttner. His agent thought it was still ongoing with us for weeks after SFC walked away. He struck lucky though because ManU came in.

Maybe that's the hope here as well, baiting the bigger clubs into making bids, but so far the bigger clubs haven't come. We are a more attractive proposition than Cardiff at the moment with all respect to them and in footballing terms the deal make sense for everyone as far as I can see. But, if they are willing to pay the fees and it IS about money then he could be off there... I'd be surprised though.

Tried some digging on this. Nothing too fruitful.

They have no idea where the deal is at, been trying to follow it but there's a lot of conflicting reports.

The only thing that was mentioned was that Celtic involved themselves in the negotiations with the agent, offering a contribution towards his fee. Any chance this is why the agent accused Celtic of trying to force Wanyama into a move?

If it's true that Celtic offered a contribution towards the agent's fees, it's sort of surprising that that is the sticking point.

Our deals always drag on because Cortese makes sure the offer is done on our terms and not theirs. A lot of other clubs would happily pay the agent's ridiculous fees.

And because we created a 'Saint X' thread. Gaston, Davide, Victor...all turned into extended melodramas because of the thread. Lovren? No thread, done before we knew it.

That would be awful, we'd spend the next 2 1/2 months speculating over whether there would be another signing!

Exactly. We'd have everything wrapped up neatly, but then we'd start finding holes in the squad that don't exist, fretting because we don't have that crucial fifth striker or eighth goalkeeper, and what is Cortese doing about it anyway, nothing that's what. And then someone would sign with a bottom-half team for a cut-rate price just because they don't have legs, and that would merit a freak-out, because that team coulda been us, but we're skint because Cortese blew the budget in the first week. Best to panic over transfers yet to come rather than transfers that will never be.

If we actually still want him I suggest we invite the agent to enjoy the view from the Itchen Bridge, dangling by his ankles on a dodgy bit of rope.

Smokescreen? More like he's shut the blinds!
This deal is deader than a dead thing in deadland.
We shall look for a player less motivated by money, & silently sign them up, the way it should be done.

I see you have had dinner with Cortese, did he say anything else?
