Before we all get too excited, this was from last month. A former coach talking about how interested Arsenal are.

I hope you realise that if I get let down now, I will go on a massive killing spree. This is the most excited I've been about a transfer in all my time of supporting Saints.
There is an interesting thread on the Celtic Forum about this - seems mixed feelings about Wanyama - generally most seem happy with £10m as they think he wants to leave. But they are also talking about Arsenal and Inter being interested now Celtic have "accepted" an offer
They were all over his jock for the entire season so if anyone's claiming they're happy to see him go, it's surely only because of recent developments - plus £10m is a pretty good fee for both teams.

Agree 100% if we signed banega I would be rapt as it would be a massive statement of intent and obviously he is an immense talent but he could take the whole season to adapt whereas I reckon wanayama will lift our team from the first game he plays. He is built for the premier league, I particulaly like the fact that he will provide some aerial ability and counterattack.More excited about Wanyama than I was about Ramirez. Or the potential Lens, Banega, Coutinho, etc. signings.
He pretty much encapsulates everything I wanted Saints to add-- physical midfield presence on defense, someone in midfield who is good in the air, a physical midfielder who may be a better target player for the CB's than Cork or Schniederlin, and someone who shoots and can score from long range.
He is potentially so good that I feel like it takes a lot of pressure off finding another attacker as he will score goals and create chances for others via long shots and also just in controlling midfield. Even if he may not get credit for assists or pull of any pretty through balls. He will allow Ramirez/Davis not to have to drop back as far,
and also for Schneiderlin to pull the strings a bit more instead of having to run all over the field making last-ditch tackles all the time. And that in turn lets Ramirez do his thing, which in turn lets Lambert and Rodriguez do their thing. I'd still like to see an attacker brought in, but now I feel we can take a chance on a cheaper prospect and let them develop rather than paying huge sums for a "proven" scorer.
Premature?!
he is tbftalkSPORT just said they hope he doesn't come here as "Wanyama is better than Southampton".
