I come on here every day and fully expect Lamby to have started a January transfer rumour thread.

Why does what time it is have any relevance? Is it wrong to post southampton related news on a southampton forum?

It's not wrong, but then for some people on forums you must have things in exactly the right place. The internet is a finite space and must be used wisely. Unless it's them posting, in which case it's fine :)

There are only two reasons to buy a player in January: desperation or because a player you have wanted for a while becomes available. Obviously desperation is the one you have to beware of as you could be stuck with a player that you don't need...that is where loans become more useful. Presumably we won't be desperate because of relegation fears, so it more likely we will need reinforcements to increase our chances of a European spot. Pretty certain our recruitment department are beavering away as we speak.

Isn't that the same whatever the transfer window?

The January window isn't the same as the summer one. In the summer, you are trying to build your team and get bits for your jigsaw. In the January window, things may be going wrong and sticking plasters are required.

Actually there is some relevance. If I post that Saints are considering signing Alan Ball from Arsenal then I've got my timing a bit wrong..! :)

As a guide, what we tend to do is start threads on topics when the general consensus are starting to talk about them. If the forum is cluttered with threads we tend to ask people not to start new ones that clearly aren't going to get much of a life, at present. As it happens, I wouldn't consider that the board is that cluttered, so it's fine by me. Does that make sense..?

I'm not saying we have to panic buy someone but we could do with another striker like Pelle. Regardless if we sell anyone, increased competition and offers us a chance to rotate players.
