Always thought Brighton would get him. They’re spending some serious wedge this year as the Rutter deal is worth £40 million and O’Riley at £25 million taking their spending this summer to approx £160 million.

Did that deal actually happen in the end? Didn't seem very Brighton and I would have thought; going by the many successes of their scouting department, that they would have been able to find players as good as/if not better than Rutter and O'Riley for a fraction of the money!

Also spending about £30m on Kadioglu aswell. All the money they’ve made from previous windows being invested

I quite like that they effectively kept their counsel after receiving the £100m from Chelsea for Caicedo last summer and are now spending it on people who they have presumably had their eye on for some time and spent a lot of time working on in the background

I'm sure if it was Saints and we didn't spend it, then my perspective would be a little different <laugh>

Yeah strange how we remember things differently. My recollection is Mane didn’t cause a stink, didn’t quote anything stupid/aggressive & I held him in high regard, not like a couple others who took the M62 west route.

That’s exactly how I remember it. Think we got over 30 mill for him as well, a bit less than we asked for and cheap in hindsight, but no one was exactly short changed.

Considering nobody reputable has mentioned us for at least a week when mentioning O’Riley I’m hoping the club has moved on as the deal has been dead for awhile. Whether the moving on is Fernandes or someone else we will soon find out

Interesting that Rasmus is still involved in Saints transfers. I thought he had stepped back.
He might not be but isn’t he still Chief Exec? So probably got the news before Martin of the confirmation. Or was involved in just the signing of the contracts part

Martin said when talking about the Charles deal to Sheff Wed: "Rasmus and I spoke about it a lot, but Shea made the final decision."

It does seem like he is directly involved in Saints recruitment. Whilst our business, so far, seems good, that is a worry!

Can someone remind me why it’s a worry? Is it because he was seemingly the sole person involved in that nightmare January window? Because he surely wouldn’t be the sole voice anymore even if he was involved?

Yeah he stepped in when Shields left and was in charge during that window and very almost crippled the club - if we hadn't have gone up we would be really in the ****.

And made the Carillo mistake of spending big money on players for outgoing managers. And Sulemana didn’t fit for him anyway unless the idea was to play him through the middle in a little and large partnership

Also both Orsic and Sulemana were left wingers. Still baffling that they signed both. Orsic was seemingly a money ball buy as his record and stats relative to a low fee should have made him a bargain on paper
