If this comes off then it will be another one where there was pretty much no mention of it in the rumour mill. I think I saw the name on Saintsweb but it seemed to be someone suggesting options rather than any claim of ITK status

Sounds like it’s happened pretty quickly. I’m sure we have dozens of players we keep a track of and with just over a week of the window left things can move very quickly so reports don’t have time to be in the public domain for long

I wonder if the final loan slot is kept for deadline day to see if an opportunity comes up

A bunch of our moves have happened quite quickly it seems. Even with more than a week left. Interesting that the player with the most prolonged links - O’Riley - is almost certainly going to be the one we don’t get

I don't think Alex's **** up against Newcastle changed anything, RM has been non-committal all summer. I do think there's a chance that O'Riley going to Brighton (so it seems) and us signing Fernandes for about 10m less has given us the wriggle room to buy a starting GK rather than loan one, though
I wonder if the Lis deal being permanent has anything to do with it.

Not only has it broken at about the same time but the fee for Bijlow is probably not loads bigger, maybe just a few £m, than what we might get for Lis. Hard to tell until we know for sure what fee each go for though.

Seems likely they're linked. It may even be that we needed to agree a fee with Feyenoord (or get close) before "negotiating" the required fee for Lis to go to Goztepe.

I can’t think of a Saints keeper in the last 20 years that didn’t have a brain fart in him to be honest. Remember that McCarthy got us promoted last season, and for that we should always be grateful.

I've always liked Macca and i'm thankful to him but like SKD before him, there is no room for sentiment when you're facing some of the best forwards in the world.
He's an adequate back up but we simply can't go through a PL season with him as number 1.

It’s probably more that we just needed to free up the squad space. Lis leaving one way or another left us with only two fit first team goalkeepers, one of whom is absolutely appalling.

Maybe it being permanent allows us to seek a permanent signing rather than a loan

No wonder Atletico got rejected at £2m. I wonder if the potential in this sentence is about the transfer or that the fee might potentially reach £10m.

Does seem to add up with the theory of Fernandes being £10m less than O’Riley and allowing us to sign the goalkeeper

Interesting though because there are plenty of fans out there that have a real problem with us signing 15m players instead of 25m+ players. Right down to seemingly ignoring the existence of our £15m striker signing. But then most also were rightly insistent on the need to sign a goalkeeper. It’s a clearly a balancing act. I assume that ultimately most would prefer this route rather than not completing either signing and trying to shoot for O’Riley (and a goalkeeper loan) and then get beaten by another side and suddenly be scrabbling around.

I'd say that our record with making signings that break our tyransfer record is pretty bad and those at more middling amounts much better

May as well rename us to ****house FC if this goes through. :)

This is class <laugh>

Reminds me of the Panama sub booting the ball away from the opposition to slow down a throw in when they qualified for the WC.

Can get behind this kind of stuff much more than the Diaz antics the other day.
