This hasn't been on/off/on/off. That's just how the media has reported it. They were in meetings until yesterday so it wasn't "off" until this morning and it still certainly isn't definitely "off" now. And if you expected a negotiation involving fees of well over £10m to be uncomplicated then you've never done any work with finance.
