I don't think there's any requirement to use an actual surname in matches. Lots of players don't.

It used to be the rule. When the first swathe of foreign players came here, they had to use surnames rather than the name they were used to. No Ronaldinho or Ronaldo. Not enforced now.

I have no idea - I've always been told it was the rule, but then you see Javi Hernandez wearing Chicharito... Guess there must not be a rule.

Maybe it has to be a name you're actually known by, but there does seem to be a lot of variation. Bryan Ruiz just has 'Bryan' which looks quite amusing, Yakubu is another who has always used his first name, and then of course there's all the Brazilians with their nicknames.

But I can't think of a British player who has done anything weird with theirs (anyone know of any?); you'd think if it was whatever they wanted some would have.

I seem to remember the rule being that it has to be a name he is commonly known as. But how would he be commonly known as it unless he put it on his shirt, I hear you ask (well me anyway). Hence Pedro Monteiro = Pele (sorry to keep banging on about him). Suppose the PL doesn't care, and it's all about shirt sales really.

Morten Gamst Pedersen I believe has Gamst, Christian Benitez used Chucho... I dunno. Never heard of a British player using anything other than their surname, if you're looking for very very tenuous links, Oxo uses Chamberlain rather than Oxlade-Chamberlain, but that's probably to stop it looking like this:

I think we have to change our formation to get the best out of him.

What makes you think that? He's got experience in almost every attacking position, so could fit into the wide Rodriguez/Guly/Puncheon role from this season, or the Lallana role in the midfield 3.

I heard he was more of a midfielder than a winger. I also absolutely hate the 4-3-3.

Quick, someone tell Adkins to ditch 4-3-3 because ollysaints1 does not enjoy it.

Once we fully adapt to the system (which I fully believe our new attacking players will assist us in) - we will serve up some great, slick, passing football.

I love it on the interview where Nigel's showing him the stadium and then shows how the fans celebrate!

The one thing that stands out from that Inside Futbol article is that Ramirez thrives best when a team is built around him. This seems like a huge change, but I suppose the other signings this summer will have been made with this one in mind. And if there is any parallel with Matt Le Tiss, don't forget that Alan Ball got the best out of him by building a team around him.Him and Lallana and Mayuka interchanging as the 3 in a 4-2-3-1 would seem to be the way to go.

I just hope that when he eventually does play he does not try too hard to impress........to many good players have done that over the years. It takes a while to build a reputation but only seconds to destroy it...........Just hope he is level headed and takes things in his stride.

Gaston did mention that he was told the team would be built round him...mind you that may be in the same category as when a man swears to love you forever<laugh> It is possible that he is seen as the missing link in our team, but, as someone else said, hope he doesn't try too hard and keep going out of position chasing the game. He might hit the ground running, but I hope the fans show some patience and let him settle in.

@jordansibley: Great to be hosting Utd in a league game at long last, St Mary's is a hive of activity already. Plan to unveil Ramirez pre-match #SaintsFC
