only very slightly, sahin is a deep-lying playmaker, surely the same can be said of Alonso and Modric?
Modric is far better in a deeper role. He doesn't have anywhere like as much influence when he's further up the park. Take last season as an example. Playing alongside Parker in a 4-4-1-1 he was routinely excellent, once the transfer window closed. Lennon got injured, the team changed shape and Redknapp picked a 4-2-3-1 with Modric as the central player in the 3. That was the start of the massive slump and it only stopped once the old formation was reverted to and Modric moved back. Madrid could potentially play Modric and Alonso, but it'd probably leave the defence exposed too much. The play a very similar role, but in pretty dissimilar ways.
I agree, modric can be like pirlo.... in many ways tottenhams 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 kind of hides that but i do have to say i think us english fans are obsessed with "attacking midfielders" rahter than just plain good midfielders and honestly i think LFC might just have 3 very genuine good midfielders in allen, sahin and lucas all playing together... i hope so. i think the likes of henderson and shelvey who are underage england captains need to take a good long look and learn how to be midfielders first. As the years have gone on and gerrard has lost the form and formation that allowed him to play effectively as a no 10 behind torres i have got more and more annoyed by how he ignores a lot of the game. i do hope we push him forward and make him a wide forward in this 4-3-3... i think honestly there is a role for gerrard as most of the time i see one staying wide and one coming in from wide in rodgers play so it could suit him.... but the main message is i think with these 3 midfielders we've genuine ball passing ability, tackling ability, they've cover the full backs to provide width and have the disciplined approach to help us improve.
I think that's a misconception. He isn't the quickest but from what I've seen of BVB he was best when played as an attacking midfielder. Most of his best passes came from the position behind the strikers and wingers, or when he was the player initiating a counter attack. He certainly won't play as deep as Alonso does.
Two systems I can see us doing. please log in to view this image Defence: Reina Johnson Skrtel Agger Enique And then: Basquettes - Lucas Alonso - Allen Xavi - Sahin Iniesta - Gerrard Silva - Suarez Villa - Borini and please log in to view this image Defence: Reina Johnson Skrtel Agger Enique And then: Basquettes - Lucas Alonso - Allen Xavi - Sahin Silva - Suarez Iniesta - Not so sure, maybe Assaidi Fabrigas - Gerrard
Nothing on the club site. If he has I hope they don't go for some tawdry presentation prior to the City match
Sounds like we've agreed the deal with Real but he still needs to agree to it I presume and have a medical
http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/reds-agree-sahin-deal Barring a medical, Sahin will be on a season long loan to Liverpool FC. Looks like there is no clause to make it permanent, just a season long loan. Not actually seen him play, so I'm guessing he must be good enough to break our starting XI if he's coming to loan for only a season. Otherwise, waste of time. Thoughts? Also, may I say, about freaking time this drama was over. It was starting to make Aqualani's offseasons look peaceful.
It's official, apart from the medical http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/reds-agree-sahin-deal
Can he play Sunday or do we have to wait till next weekend to see him play as won't be eligible to group stage of Europa.
I would imagine we wait a week, as he hasn't trained with us at all. Still pending medical, as well. If anything he comes off the bench.
