Don't think Sagna has done much wrong here, he's given us his best years and he's entitled to go where he likes as he's out of contract. I won't pretend I am happy that he will be warming the bench for Manchester City but it can't be helped. I wish him all the best.

Already explained why in the comment that you were responding to. For me it's the fact that we offered him a new contract and he decided to turn it down and join a rival for a huge pay packet instead. Some people might say, 'well it's our own fault we should have offered him more', but I don't think we should be getting into that City and Chelsea style of paying aging players well over the odds.

I like Sagna and I've got nothing against him personally, he gave his best years to Arsenal and he was always the model pro in his approach. But that still doesn't negate the fact that he's turned us down to join a rival because he was offered more money.

Which is what almost every single person would do in any other profession. Get over yourself.

Chill Winston <ok> Maybe not everybody if they are already earning 3m-4m per year. I mean, how much money do you actually need ? If he wants even more money, then that's his choice. Personally though, my opinion is that he's left us to join a rival, and it looks like a lot like he's just left for a big pay cheque.

    I agree.
Unlike past traitors he hasn't used the media to question our ambition, tactics, financial position or dig at the club in any way, he has shut himself away from teh media and played as hard as he ever has, for that he deserves credit.
We have offered him contracts and he's refused to accept any of them and that is his choice, but to end up as 2nd choice RB at one of the oil clubs does stink of greed to me....

Bollocks, that is. If someone offered you the same deal, you'd take the £6.5m job.

I don't understand this argument ... never had.

I earn £13,000 as a teaching assistant....that is £955 take home per month
If another school offered me more money I would obviously take it as the extra money would improve the life of my family.

However if I was earning £60,000 per week as a TA and was happy at the school then no amount of money would get me to leave cos I would be so ****ing rich...how a football seriously needs another 10 or 20k a week when they already earn 60k per week is completely beyond me.

Personally I think Sagna thinks city will win the prem next year and will play enough games to get a medal so he has gone for that reason but footballers are unashamedly greedy in a way that is unforgivable imo.

All that money, plus image rights and then they have all sorts of tax deals, advertising deals etc.

Imho most footballers have no love for football and only play it because they are good at it, so for them it is simple go to the club where you will earn the most money.

Very rare that a professional footballer plays the game just because they love it and are happy to stay at a club when they have been offered more elsewhere.

Sagnas move is not a surprise. Most of us saw it coming and like the above post mentioned he has dealt with it in a classy way. He has always given his best for Arsenal so I will not begrudge him a move to pastures new. I will miss him but like all before him he is replaceable.

As for City their oil money is always welcome at Arsenal in the right context but their transfer policy is really f**king lazy!

Got to remember that Sagna isn't playing for his boyhood club or anything. He's not a fan, he's an employee, and he's been offered better pay for the same job elsewhere. It's not surprising that he's going.

All the top clubs have lazy transfer policy, they let smaller clubs take the risk with unproven players and then step in and pay a premium once the player has proven his quality.

Except Wenger who until recently does the complete opposite. ;)

I love this club and all, but if i were a player here earning 90k a week, and Citeh phoned me and said they'd give me 140 k for doing the same job, i'd be a moron to turn it down. That's 2.6 million a year extra, you could buy a house with that.

No issues with what Sagna's done, good luck to him, he gave us his prime years when he could have been winning trophies with almost any other club.

I agree to an extent, but I'd have to paraphrase that and say that 'most footballers have no love for their clubs' rather than a lack of love for the game itself.

You're right though to point out how rare it is for players to stay at one club, especially when there's the mega-wad wages flying around from the likes of City and the Chavs.

Sagna has been a great servant for the club,I'll be sorry to see him go and I wish him well in his future career.I've no doubt if he joins another PL club he'll get a good reception from the fans when he plays against us.The one think I don't understand though is the difference in attitude by fans to Sagna and other players who have left us e.g. Nasri & RVP ? These two are treated with disdain by fans but the only difference I can see is Sagna has chosen to run his contract down whilst the other two informed the club they would not renew their contracts and the club chose to cash in on them. Why is it acceptable for Sagna to leave for more money but other players are called greedy ****s ?

I imagine it's precisely for that reason. Those players had contracts that they didn't want to honour and effectively "forced" the club into selling them. Sagna has honoured his to it's end, quietly and in a dignified manner, and is therefore free to move where he wants. He's acted extremely professionally throughout.
