    I'm for it and just wondered what your views are?

    Something that really bugs me though is the constant media and politician spin that Safe Standing was introduced because of the Taylor report, which i feel is totally incorrect, it followed after the report but was not legislation passed directly because of the report but purely because of Thatchers own views and witch hunt by her and her storm troopers after the miners strike, and attempts by her to social cleanse the UK.

    In the lower leagues they do, maybe you are just referring to experiences in the Premiership. The petition is on course for 100,000 signatures, so why would you assume no one cares, and why should we be treated differently to every other sport?

    I’m all for it, as long as it’s railed.

    The Taylor’s report advocated all seater stadia and the football Trust was set up to assist clubs in funding the necessary changes to all seater from terracing.

    Traditional terracing was always quite dangerous, even before the railings trapping everyone in. The surges after goals / attacks saw you thrown forward in a sea of bodies. I also remember as a kid being crushed up against a barrier on more than one occasion. I was happy to see it go in the top flight.

    I’ve stood on terracing since at lower league grounds and in smaller stands that aren’t crammed full I think it’s fine.

    But in large stands it’ll have to be safe standing, which has proven to provide no safety issues since it appeared on the continent. In fact you could argue that it’s safer than people standing in seating areas which is what happens now especially in away sections and behind the goals.

    I agree with most of what you say, although I think there is a lot of misconceptions about what was actually recommended in the Taylor report, in comparison to what the political stance was. So slight difference of opinion there.

    Also I believe there has been incidents in the world where seating has caused injury, especially in an evacuation. However, I'm not going to pick at straws on that one. Although in some older stadiums (lower leagues) where seating was installed it restricted the walkway's, this in turn in high tiered stands can cause a safety issue in itself that gets overlooked. In those old stands (I think from memory, Tranmere Rovers might be an example) you could at least move forward to catch your balance but now there is only one way to go, over the top of low seating, which don't give the safety mechanism of a hand rail that safe standing provides.

    There’s no misconception mate, the Taylor report recommended that all major stadiums be converted to all seater. This was then made into law by the Tories. He did also say that standing wasn’t by itself intrinsically unsafe, but that didn’t alter his recommendation for the countries major stadia.

    Have you ever seen that written in the report?...genuine question <ok>

    Also I note you used the word 'major' - so does that mean Sunderland can remove their seating now...asking for a friend <ok>

    Personally I used to love the terrace, even the surging bits. I'd like to see safe standing, as the atmosphere at grounds has gone since all-seater stadiums.

    I’ve not read the entire report, but it was widely discussed at the time and the final report recommended that the top 2 divisions of English football went all seater by 1994/95 season

    Unsafe standing was great, all hell breaking loose when you scored, cozzers getting their helmets whacked off etc;

    There’s no credible argument against it. Literally none whatsoever. Just a politician scared to act.
