If it is allowed back even in a small way then thsi will certainly help us reach our 35,000 capacity without the need for additional stand building investment. Also, if it was allowed into small managable blocks it would be pretty safe anyway. it is only when you had large banks like the Kop where it became a bit more dangerous.

Brentford was one of the best away games I went to this year all because of the atmosphere in the terraces.

Wouldn't abandon an expansion plan is just use it to increase numbers of cheap seats.

It feels like a really simple thing to implement to me. The issue with standing in the past was that people would just cram themselves in and there was less oversight of the whole thing. Now you have assigned tickets, better barriers and checks, and breakers to prevent surging.

Definitely makes for a great atmosphere. Best I've heard was at Ninian Park, watching a Cardiff vs Leeds match a some years ago now. Only other Terrace I've been on was at Peterborough when we beat them 3-0 in the cup.

Am 100% in favour of standing, I hate sitting down.

But don't get too excited, the proposals I believe are for a German system that keeps the seated rows, but the entire seat flattens and folds up. So you will still be 'stood' in rows and one standing place will replace one seat. That allows the areas to still be used as seating for other competitions / event.

So standing yes, open terraces no. The usual 'compromise' to try to appease to everyone, but satisfy nobody.

In that format it does double the capacity though so not too bad, the rails prevent crown surges which is sort of the whole point anyway.

Thank **** for that, seating kills the vibe at games, just look atmosphere at some of the Bundesliga games which have safe terracing.

As my children grow older, I am all for standing but if you had asked me the question while my children were younger, then no chance!

I'm interested to know how you can say that so categorically? And even if you can, the idea is to return a small (ish) section into safe standing, not the entire ground. So the seated fraternity wouldn't be affected at all.

If the proposal was to say turn half the lower Barclay into safe standing, I could see that working. Those that want to stand get a discount, those wanting to stay seated aren't displaced too far.

That said, I can't see us being early adopters of this. McNally lost a close friend or relative (cant remember which) at Hillsborough, and I believe is on record as not wanting to see standing allowed again, in any capacity. Granted one man doesn't rule our club thankfully, but equally he's usually the one driving us forward. This isn't an area I can see him supporting right away.

He has said if its allowed he would explore it, Hillsborough style terracing is so different from what's being discussed now it shouldn't really even be part of the conversation (obviously it will be but for emotional not factual reasons). You wrote pretty much my exact thoughts there Bath.

Also agree with you about getting the legs in. 6'3" is not great for tight seating. Much handier in a standing crowd!

Indeed - I'm 6'2", which is an advantage when standing, but quite the opposite when forced to use cramped seating (yes, Loftus bloody Road, I'm talking to you ) where you spend half the game trying to ensure some blood flow from the waist down

Edit - I do wonder sometimes whether Ryanair used Loftus bloody Road as their seating model?

I had a woman infront of me on a Ryanair flight get annoyed with what she thought was a broken reclining seat. Only to look round and see my knees wedged behind her. If I'd gotten up and she's reclined I literally wouldn't have been able to sit back down.

Budapest -> Stansted in circa 2.5 hours, so not too bad. I always make doubly sure my MP3 player is fully charged - I seem to attract the most objectionable, crotchety small children in the row behind / in front

It's a city high (32,000 feet) on my bucket list, along with Porto and Ljubljana.
Sadly, though, medical issues make it highly (35,000 feet) unlikely I'll ever get there.

Only football supporters could think that stepping back is a step forward. People used to stand at theatres and cinemas until progress called seats arrived. If you are on a train people moan like hell if they have to stand. The only time you stand at a Cricket match is when you go to the bar. As with a lot of things memories through rose tinted glasses is far better than the reality. Standing on the terraces was crap then and would be crap again. People seem to forget that even before all seater stadiums were compulsory Carrow Road and most other top grounds were nearly all seating on three sides due to public demand. Why go back in time on just seating? Lets enjoy the full terrace experience of the 50's and 60's by taking the roof off so the rain can pour down on our heads!! Fun fun all round. I now watch the matches from behind the glass at the Barclay end and it is the most I have enjoyed my visits to Carrow Road in my 65 years of attendance. Comfort is progress - standing at football matches along with all the problems it caused should be consigned to history.
