“Campaigners have highlighted that leaving seats unlocked assists those wishing to climb onto the barriers, but the report did not recommend altering the advice that seats should remain unlocked, so that supporters have the option to sit during the match if they wish to.” You can bet that we will have some who will buy tickets for the safe standing area and put the seat down the make a fuss that they and their little sprog can’t see the pitch.
Safe standing in West stand here we come. That should piss him off (the old bloke and their lass sitting behind me).
UEFA are to trial the use of safe-standing areas in European club competitions in England, Germany + France. Could lead to end of its ban on standing. Trial will apply to all matches through to semi-finals.
UEFA? Yes honestly. I'm well aware of course that English legislation doesn't allow standing but there are loads of grounds with standing elsewhere in Europe, so I wasn't aware UEFA had their own ban on it and I still don't understand what their ban really means, since I've never heard any suggestion of Dortmund's yellow wall being prevented from standing for Champions League games for example.
Standing is not allowed at any UEFA games. There are not loads of grounds with safe standing in Europe.Even in Germany not all stadiums have safe standing. Dortmund does, Munich does anda few more. Do, Hamburg and Frankfurt are amongst those who don’t. There is no safe standing in Italy, France, Spain, Russia or anywhere else. This list shows the few stadiums with it. Dortmund has standing at both ends and capacity for European games is reduced from 81,000 to 66,000 whilst Munich although it has a lower capacity only has safe standing at one end so loses less and ends up with a higher capacity for European games than Dortmund. Unfortunately in this country I don’t we will see a Dortmund or Bayern type of thing, there will be a small section. Even then some clown has suggested the seats are not bolted up for safe standing like in German in case someone wants to sit down. Imagine the fuss that could cause. Anyway , this list shows the few with safe standing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_European_stadiums_by_capacity
It is well known to be honest. Doesn’t matter in most. Instances as only Germany has standing, and even then not at all grounds, and I think possibly Sweden which as a couple.
One of the main reasons safe standing actually still has a seat, is because they have to be converted to back to seating for UEFA sanctioned competitions.
Lokeren had standing and we used it in our UEFA competition there. I'm sure there'll be plenty more since we're talking about all of Europe.
There isn’t. None in Spain, none in Italy, none in Greece, none in Russia. They had a pilot scheme in France with 4 clubs. Strangely enough in health and safety mad, litigation crazy USA standing in areas are commonplace at football (soccer style football) games. There were a few at the small ground at Lokeren but there is none at the main Belgian clubs. Of course Lokeren are no more…
I’ve never understood Health & Safety in USA though. You’re right they seem a litigious society, but not so much bothered about H&S as far as I’ve seen I’m sure someone will prove me wrong, but having seen several people working at height perched on wooden swings with no harnesses somethings odd somewhere.
