No worries mate, but the last bit is wrong as well lol He went to Hertha Berlin and played in the champions league!!! Another cracking player gone missing in red and white (wasn't his fault)
he was given very little time to adjust to be fair, and its a problem for most South American players, Vergini suffers from the same thing but if they adjust you have the best of both worlds, as shown by the likes of Julio.
My favourite is probably Arca, although I don't necessarily think he is the most talented we have had..I really can't decide on that one..
Excellent point. Some adjust very quickly - e.g. Aguero - but very few. I remember Steve Bruce saying South Americans won't play a lot of first team football in their first season here. I think that's probably why he loaned Riveros to Turkey. I thought he was showing signs of being a decent player. Unfortunately, O'Neill never bothered to bring him back from Turkey. And now we're short of midfield creativity! (O'Neill didn't bother to bring back Gyan from Dubai either - and we're now short of somebody who can score. If it wasn't British and cost the earth, Martin just wasn't interested).
I was there also !, I wish I had waited 3 months and went to Wembley to live aid instead, the biggest concert in history. But what about the German/West German international defender who Reid signed but never played him. Malbranque, Schwarz, Julio were great.
I liked him but he never really did all that much. David Meyler was keeping him out of the team at the end.
None really reading the above, never moved one on for more dosh other than Gyan who is the only top lad out the lot, always notches in World Cup or Cup of Nations. Julio went to Boro and didn't do much, too slow in the Premier, good in Championship.
We didn't make a profit on Gyan fella, got back what we paid. Allowed Al Ain to pay the ****er 6m a season but we didn't think to demand a profit
Do Geordies count as foreign? They're not from my planet so they must do? Were there any really top notch ones in red and white? Or have I just lowered the whole tone of this thread?
All time great, and so modest and polite, a true role . Bob Moncur and of course Ron Guthrie and David Young spring to mind. The other side of the coin of course Mr Lee and Chopra were just dumbmags.
